Buffalo has never shied away from spending money though, they've just spent it in ways that haven't panned out.

They also have a lot of money they need to spend to get to the cap floor

Wasn’t it reported management wanted to trade ROR before his SB thus lowering the possible return?

I think there's a couple of different ways of interpreting that though-The signing bonus was $7.5 mil. You'd have to get a pretty substantial boost to make up the difference.

Plus, at the time, that was a pretty good haul. Essentially 2 1sts, a 2nd, Berglund and Sobotka (Who were both reasonably efficient 2 way players at the time). Not bad for a guy who had demanded a trade. Unfortunately, it just didn't turn out well.

The only people that thought it was a win-win were biased media. Look at the comment sections of those articles you’ll see response like quality versus quantity or this is “Terri bad” for Buffalo. Tage wasn’t anything special when we’re talking about an established 25 year 60pt Selke center. It doesn’t help that the pick was 31st (it was top 10 protected anyway) and no one expected STL to be in the lottery. So we’re essentially saying 2x late first rounders there. It’s hard to even come up with a comp really maybe the closest is Couts which I’m sure most would say that’s a bad return even if he demanded a trade. The main point being that SB shouldn’t matter to the Pegulas based on what you said. Money forced their hand there.
