The Fiala Game

Créé par: MNBassman

Date de création initiale: 30 sept. 2021

Description
Hypothetical…
Scenario: The Wild are sellers at the TDL and decide to move Kevin Fiala (mistake). He has 25 goals, 28 assists at the deadline and is an RFA at the end of the season.
Question: What does your favorite hockey team offer up for Kevin Fiala?
Salary can be retained as necessary.
Roster set up to show the Wild’s potential lineup after the TDL although I think Greenway might be moved too, if the Wild are sellers…

If Fiala had 35 goals and 28 assists by the deadline, he would've scored 63 points 59 games...Wild's ask would be through the roof...in other words, there's no deal to be made. Fiala would be your best player by far at that point.

Not to mention that in 2019-20, the last year of normal length until deadline, by that point only 5 players had managed to score 35 goals - Pastnrak, Ovechkin, Matthews, Draisaitl and Aho. With all credit to Fiala, he's not a player of this level.

More likely, Fiala has about 15 goals, 18 assists.

Fiala likely returns a late pick in 1st round or early 2nd round and B+/A- prospect. Similar to the Buchnevich or Arvidsson returns.

CAR - Noel Gunler and 2022 2nd round pick
CBJ - Tyler Angle and 2022 2nd round pick
CGY - Adam Ruzicka and 2022 2nd round pick
COL - Alex Beaucage and 2022 2nd round pick
DAL - Mavrik Bourque and 2022 3rd round pick
EDM - Tyler Benson and 2022 2nd round pick
FLA - Serron Noel and 2023 1st round pick
MTL - Jesse Ylonen and 2022 2nd round pick
NYI - Kieffer Bellows and 2022 2nd round pick
NYR - Will Cuyle and 2022 2nd round pick
PHI - 2022 1st round pick
PIT - 2022 2nd round pick, 2023 2nd round pick
STL - Klim Kostin and 2022 2nd round pick
TBL - Boris Katchouk and 2022 1st round pick
TOR - Nick Robertson and 2023 2nd round pick
VGK - Pavel Dorofeyev and 2022 2nd round pick
WAS - Daniel Sprong and 2022 1st round pick
WPG - 2022 1st round pick

What would Minnesota want?
I am assuming NHL-ready, or near-ready, young players on ELCs or cheap bridge deals?
Guys that can play 2022-25 without a huge step up in salary?
Maybe a d-man that could play next year?

Definitely prospects and picks. They do not need left-shot forwards or defensmen.

So some package that includes some or all of the following?

- Right shot forward
- Right shot defenseman
- Any kind of prospect
- Any kind of pick

On the righties, Devils have few that make sense because they are:

- Guys we wouldn't deal in this scenario (Hamilton, Severson, McLeod, Mercer, Holtz)
- Guys that are Subban (Subban)
- Guys that have yet to play in NHL (Clarke, Walsh, Stillman, McCarthy, Zetterlund)
- Guys that are fringe-level prospects (Schnarr, Hurtig, Moynihan)
- Guys that have walked away from hockey to be social media influencers (Popugayev)

That leaves Tyce Thompson and Christian Jaros as NHL righties. Not exactly a surplus here either.

For prospects, I'd think Mercer, Holtz, Luke Hughes and Mukhamadullin would be off-the-table. My next guys would probably be the following:

- Nolan Foote, LW
- Kevin Bahl, LHD
- Arseni Gritsyuk, RW
- Reilly Walsh, RHD
- Chase Stillman, RW
- Graeme Clarke, RW/C
- Ethan Edwards, LHD
- Samu Salminen, C
- Tyce Thompson, RW/C
- Daniil Misyul, LHD
- Nikita Okhotiuk, LHD
- Marian Studenic, RW
- Case McCarthy, RHD
- Artem Shlaine, C/W
- Michael Vukojevic, LHD
- Topias Vilen, LHD
- Fabian Zetterlund, RW

For picks, if we are buying, any would be on the table. If we are out of playoffs, the 2022 1st would likely be protected.

60 games and he more likely has 33 points? Based on what? Normally I'd say you're just stat watching and don't actually know the player, but even if you just stat watch, he'd be at 49 points in 60 games based on his last two seasons.

I would offer him about 7 million at 6/7 years and keep him on the Wild.

Agreed. I really don’t like the growing narrative that Fiala is going to be moved. I completely get why it exists, but I’d much rather they work to shuffle things to keep him.

With the upcoming cap issues and him being a RFA we'll hear about it all season long. If he can decrease the turnovers and score like we've seen I'd sure like to keep a player that sounds like he wants to stay in MN.
