That top line will get run out of the building by every other team in the NHL. Otherwise decent depth and D core is strong.

Surprisingly enough I think they could hold their own especially if they have a more defensive tandem behind them. Hughes and sharangovich aren’t bad off the puck especially with hughes take always and Sharangovich defensive awareness. Also with Zacha and Hischier on line 2 and Mercer and Malkin on the third line I don’t think defensive liabilities are that serious

The Malkin signing would be huge. But switch Malkin and Hughes in lineup.

Jack Hughes should not be a 1C anywhere in NHL unless the Devils want to continue to embarrass themselves. He is Nail Yakupov 2.0.

Devils could save some money on those RFAs and go for a 1C like Zibanejad, Hertl, Barkov, Strome. Pay Hughes $2-3 million, use the $2.3 million cap space and $4.5 million from Malkin to sign Hertl to 7 x $8.5 million. Move out Bratt, Zacha, Tatar, and Severson and add a proven goal-scorer like Kessel or Rust and an a**-kicker for the bottom pair.

Devils are still 2-3 years from becoming a playoff team.

On the team, I would be shocked if Malkin and Pullock don't sign with their respective teams. GIven those are the main moves here, I don't think this is really realistic. Should aim lower on the UFA market. Both teams have enough coming off the books to be able to re-sign each player at the price you are giving... would need to really overpay for Pulock especially
