Well personally speaking this trade is trash for the Leafs. Moving a top10, potentially a top5 player of his position and one of their top prospects for one power forward and a few depth assets just makes no sense to me.

that's because lots of leafs fans are brain washed by don cherry and think a significantly worse player who likes to get suspended is what the leafs are missing.

This package doesn’t get you close to marner, and you want the leafs second best prospect ? Why am I seeing a bunch of trades for marner like he’s a third like 45 point player

This is a response to today's Leafs fan post of Marner and Kerfoot for Wilson and McMichael.

That would require the Caps to give away all the other guys they're throwing into this trade, plus more, to make room for Kerfoot. I don't think that makes any sense, so I built this to try to see whether it made the Caps better, overall. I kind of think losing a couple of 2nd pair level defensemen and a great 3C is too much to upgrade from an above average two-way 1R with an edge to a great two-way 1R.

So that's why I threw in a 3rd pair D and a good prospect. To show a scenario where this deal would make sense to the Capitals. I do not mean to imply that the Leafs would consider this. They have made it quite clear they are keeping their core together as long as they can. But for the Wilson fans, this is the current price tag. Could you haggle on what level of prospect to kick in? You know what? Sure.
