Description

Top 5 performers in game 1 of the preseason
1) Brendan Dillon: Had excellent gap control and looked very comfortable turning play around in transition.
2) Neal Pionk: Was his great self when it came to rushing up the ice. Looked confident knowing he had a safety valve like Dillon back there to cover up for him.
3)Nikolaj Ehlers: He pretty much did whatever he wanted to out there. Made numerous passes into dangerous areas for chances
4) PLD: He just seemed quicker overall than anything we saw from him last year. The most promising play from him was using his raw speed and power to dash through the neutral zone and get a high danger chance.
5) Cole Perfetti: It was obvious that he is just supremely smart and talented. slowed the game down a couple times to find players with lanes to the net. I would love to see him get more looks with NHL talent, even though I thought Toninato did a great job on the forecheck as well.

I think Cole Perfetti played good enough toninght to start putting him in the conversation of winning that 3rd line job.

I think there is an argument to be had for Demelo in the top 4 and Heinola over Stanley (just ignore the fact that he got walked today 🤐)

I love the idea of Copp in the Top 6 but man he has hands of absolute stone lol.

Absolutely loved Dillon tonight, just feels exactly like the player the team missed the last 2 years.

I agree Perfetti looked great, but I think his AHL exemption makes it much less likely he makes the team. If the choice was OHL or Jets I think he'd make the team if he finished preseason like he hdid tonight

Stanley looked good, heinola didn’t. While maurice gave heinola a lot of ice time, he needs to be much better to steal the job. Demelo in the top 4 shoudl wait until we see what JoMo and Schmidt can do together.

I think perfetti and Vesalainen should both get some sort of shot next to ehlers and dubios. Perfetti could easily take that line and run but that would depend on if maurice thinks that line can handle it defensively. As a side note, Vesalainen quietly looks oh so good. Big, strong winger is perfect next to Lowry.
