Salo Mayfield

Créé par: Db1899
Équipe: 2021-22 Islanders de New York
Date de création initiale: 26 sept. 2021
Publié: 26 sept. 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Salo was the best defenseman on the isles tonight and he compliments Mayfield because he can move the puck and make plays in all 3 zones. If he keeps playing like this it should be an easy decision to play him over Andy Greene, considering Greene is arguably the worst defenseman in the NHL and turning 40 soon.

This is what the roster should look like on opening night. Panik + Dal colle the extras, waive Ross, Bellows , and Komarov.

Won't Panik be sent down? He'll cost almost nothing against the Islanders cap if they send him to Bridgeport.

I think he deserves a spot over Komarov and Ross johnston. He’s a solid bottom 6 F on a reasonable contract.

Yeah but he’s a good depth player, more than capable of playing in most NHL team’s top 12 forwards imo. Don’t want to lose that for nothing potentially

Yes, Bellows needs to play with certain players in order to succeed. He needs a change of scenery. Hopefully he gets claimed.

His play style is similar to Devon Toews. He’s not as fast, but he just as smooth. I watched a lot of Salo in the SHL last season, he rarely makes mistakes and his hockey IQ is high end. Considering he turns 23 in a few weeks, I’d say he’s NHL ready right now.

Panik is 100% the 13th forward. He isn't going anywhere.

I really liked what I saw from both Salo and Gustafsson. I'll believe it when I see it if either start the season over Greene. But they would each be at the very least a great rotational 7D to keep Greene/Chara fresh throughout the season

MDC didn't play, but Bellows had a poor game. Did not make much of his opportunities and took a really stupid penalty. I think both aren't on the NHL roster but MDC would be used first in a pinch IMO

People talk about Salo like he’s a 19 YO coming to play pro hockey for the 1st time. He’s been playing professional hockey for 5 years and hes already 23. He deserves an extended look this season and should take over just like Hickey/Toews 3 years ago.

Playing Greene more than a few games this season would be criminal -it tells the rest of the locker room this organization isn’t serious about taking the next step. He is not an NHL caliber D and it’s not fair to the core guys on the team to keep playing him when he’s a complete liability.

I think Leo is most probable even though he hasn't skated with anyone significant in camp. I'm hoping for Golyshev though.

I personally don’t care if it’s Leo, but why would MDC re-sign than?

Golyshev probably starts in BPT. Im convinced they have him on a 1 year 900k - 1 mill deal to give him an incentive to not go back to Russia. I think they see him as part of the future.

MDC probably didn't have much interest out there - or any that there was it would be a similar situation to the Isles offered. Stick to the organization he knows and staff knows him

Salo was so calm last night. And one underrated aspect of Toews was how "good" he made Mayfield look, I saw some similarities in that regard last night. Love that Barry specifically wanted to talk about him on the press conference after the game. Ross actually looked alot better playing with Zeeker and Clutter, Kyle MacLean impressed on me. Bellows makes me sad, you could tell he lacks confidence overall I would say. Räty showed some good stickhandling and hockey-iq. Holmström was the biggest let down of them all, he just looks gassed all the time, he needs to improve his skating severely or he´ll never make the NHL. There are some comps to Bailey in his passing and reading of the game, but he´s just so slow, kinda drifting out there, never work in an Trotz system. I cry thinking about how much I wanted Tomasino, McMichael or Kaliyev at that pick. Erik Gustafsson was awful, he did some nice things offensively, but my God he is bad defensively.

Ilya Sorokin looked like an elite goalie. So calm and athletic.

Love to overreact and read into things based on one pre-season game haha.

I’ve been a big fan of Salo for a while. Isles fans overrate Bolduc, Salo is the better prospect and I don’t think it’s that close. He doesn’t make mistakes and he can make plays in all 3 zones. If he earns a spot Trotz better play him over Greene.

Ross played well but Cizikas and Clutter were driving play at a high level. Ross should play in the AHL this season, there’s no room for him on the roster

Raty needs to work on his skating but his puck skills and hockey sense are elite. I think he’ll be a great 2C In 2-3 years.

I don’t think Holmstrom ever makes the NHL. Not just based on last night, he’s just shown nothing over the past two years. What an awful pick. Tomasino was right there , i thought for sure he was the pick. I actually think Lou’s drafting has been pretty good otherwise so I just don’t understand wtf he was thinking there. Bolduc, jefferies, Dufour, Newkirk, Raty, Malinen all seem to have NHL futures which isn’t bad for 3 years of drafting, 2 without a 1st

Agree.

Of course, but for the first (?) time he looked like he could play on someones 4th line. But yeah, theres to much competition for him.

Exactly, and I believe management and him recognizes that, I am very confident in his potential, already looks pretty mature, very lucky and good pick.

Yeah, I don’t know wtf the thinking was there, they also reached a lot to pick him… in a season Holmström barely played due to injury as well. I was sure they would take Tomasino or McMichael, especially due to the lack of natural C prospects in the system. I don’t see Iskhakov having a chance at C in NHL and Koivula was forced into that role rather being an centerman naturally. Extremely weird pick all over.

Ross always has one great game and then becomes a liability again. Isles writers already coming out with articles praising Ross, but then they’ll write an article criticizing Beauvillier , Wahlstrom, Dobson, or barzal

I dont care if a prospect is a poor skater if they have high end skill and hockey Iq. They can always work to improve their skating , it’s extremely difficult to improve hockey sense . Raty is going to be a good one.
