Henrique is a better centerman than White. Much better on faceoffs. Gives us a stop gap 2C until Pinto can take the position. Plus it saves cap cuz his contract is done one year earlier.

Also note that (1) Henrique can play LW or C, whereas White is really only a RW, as you point out, and (b) due to the balloon payment in White's last year, plus the retention, this saves Melnyk almost $5 million in real money. I see that they had similar years last season.
