I honestly think this was a cap space move. If they went into the season knowing they'd be forced to trade someone when Sundqvist comes back....it's possible they'd have to send assets with Sanford vs getting something back.

From the STL perspective, you have options. They don't have to sign him before the season starts. I'm not sure he's got a lot of people lined up to submit an offer sheet. So start the season. Sent Sundqvist to LTIR. then sign Brown to a small deal. Or try to flip him for another pick?
