Détails additionnels:
Hughes probably becomes a 6 UFA. Theodore is a 4 UFA. The difference is two years, a lot of cap space, and the difference in play between Hughes and Theodore. Theodore isn't as good as Hughes, but can play a little better defensive game. The cap space is crucial in order to contend, and by the 2 year difference Chayka might be an established NHLer. Hague is an upgrade over Juolevi, and we also get a pick upgrade.

No, not anymore. The Canucks fan base is the quickest to turn on their own players and it has already happened. Everyone knows he’s a defensive liability.

Vegas is in a win mode....besides they would rather Theodore than Hughes, and you expect Vegas to give up more? IMO these toxic negotiations with RFAs are going turn off a lot of teams in any trade talks.

    This.

These young guys aren’t building the best reputation if they’re too stubborn when negotiating their first real contract.

It’s a business and the players deserve to get their share too. I have no problems with a player negotiating for what he’s worth as long as it’s in good faith.

I don't care who you are (unless your McDavid or Crosby)
No player is worth 8 plus million after only playing 130 games in the NHL.

Why? Cuz that’s how it’s always been done? Things change and players are the reason the game is great. The NHL is getting younger and younger. Players deserve their money. Also it’s smarter for teams to pay for current and future production rather than past production.

    No, because its ridiculous.
Think about working a half a year at a job, at 50k and then demanding 500k. Its unreasonable.

I agree with you. But most teams good teams and even poor teams spend to the cap. So if a teams overpay for some players, they are forced to squeeze other players.
It's really not a question of owners wanting to squeeze all players and keep profits for themselves, it's a case with some players who have leverage squeezing less influential players

If the owners voted for a higher salary cap it would pass. It is owners squeezing players based on their own rules. But even more to the point, it’s smarter to pay RFAs than it is to pay UFAs. Pay for the production you’re gonna get and not the past production of a player.

???? The salary cap is based on revenues. Owners don't want to lose money. The players want the salary cap. Last thing the players and owners want is a high cap without regard to revenues. Low revenue teams would never compete, less attendance and eventually fold. The current owners don't want and the NHLPA doesn't want it either. Each team has about 25 NHLer and 25 AHLers, so the majority of players don't want to lose jobs.
I might agree with about RFAs more...if deserved.

I know it’s about revenues but the owners are billionaires. And they all just got paid a huge amount again with SEA joining. Means more jobs but the % the players see if that money is minimal. I just think players should get paid their worth. Idc if he’s only 20.

Also the salary cap is great because you don’t have a team like the Orioles with a minimal player salary and the owners pocketing the revenue sharing.

I don't have a dog in this fight, as I'm not a fan of either team here, but can we cut it with the "Hughes is overrated" garbage? He's only been in the league a shade over 2 years and is only 21. His skating ability alone makes him insanely valuable and what he's done, at that age, at that position can not be discounted. At this stage, sure Theodore has more value, but long term, the ceiling for Hughes is so high, you can't even see it.

When Theodore was 21, he had 8 NHL points with the Anaheim Ducks. Hughes is 5 years younger, and is already matching Theo's production, while playing for the Canucks. This year will be huge for determining Hughes's value, and people will look to see if he has improved defensively at all. And I get that Vegas is in Win now mode, but wouldn't Hughes help that? Imagine Hughes-Pietrangelo

Theodore is better than Hughes so the Hughes-Pietrangelo pairing you want us to imagine is nearly as good as the Theodore-Pietrangelo we get to actually watch.

It was mutually agreed on by the players association and owners. This isn’t the owners squeezing the players but rather abiding by their contract. If anything the owners went into debt to pay their players during a time they didn’t play thus incurred expenses with no revenue or insufficient cash flow per the agreed upon CBA split.

What do you consider minimal? These players aren’t taking 10% of the split nor do they have operating expenses like the owners. Half of the owners don’t profit in this current model and it’s easy to talk about money when it’s not yours.
