Tkachuking it out

Description
Obviously Ottawa fans WANT to see Tkachuk as captain but I saw this trade posted by a NJD fan and thought, if it gets to a point where we aren't getting a deal done... this is a good offer.
Think of it as a lemons to lemonade thing...
With Malkin out to start the season PIT needs a pivot NOW and we're giving them Tierney with 50% retained as well as Logan Brown + our 2022 3rd in return for Rust who turns 30 this season and is UFA this summer, so they could resign him if Ottawa can't.
This line up is still not likely a playoff team (mostly due to youth and the horrifying D core) but we're deeeeep with young potential stars and the TWO 1st rd picks in 2022 are likely top 10 and that's exciting.
ALSO - J Brown and Holden are for sure shipped for B.O. as rentals come trade deadline, and depending on what can or can not be worked out with Nick Paul and Bryan Rust - same for them, and they'd get nice returns.

Rust seems to be too good for the Pens to give up this season. Just my opinion, I think all teams will avoid Tkachuk until his contract is settled. If he just wants a short term deal, that seem like too much for Jersey to swallow.

Length and cash have already been agreed to by Brady and the sens, the hold up is Brady wants a NMC and bonus money instead of salary and the sens do not want to do that.

Sorry, cash has not been agreed to if Brady wants bonuses plus his regular salary too. That just adds to cap hit and his total salary. Really only the two parties have that know the details of the offers.

what the hell are you talking about, the agreed deal is between 8 and 8.5M per year for 8 years, Sens want 8m in salary, Brady wants 1m salary and 7M bonus, does not add to cap hit....

Sorry, bonus and included in salary....Gee otherwise all teams would use that that small salary and large bonuses to get around the cap. Why would Tkachuk take 1m in salary and 7m in bonuses when the apparent offer is 8m....Tkachuk would be a million times better offer taking the guaranteed salary of 8m. What the hell are you talking about?

do you even know anything about hockey contracts? i do no think you do, Signing Bonuses are guaranteed money, must be paid to player in totality on July 1st, salary is paid to the player throughout the season/year. Example this year Kucherov got 8.5M in signing bonus on July 1st and will get another 3.5m during the year as a salary.

(Salary + signing bonus) / Years

Or simply stated 8M salary versus 1M salary + 7M signing bonus is the same AAV. Owners typically don’t like to do signing bonus because that is a lump sum paid out in July versus accruing it throughout the year which is offset by revenue. It also makes the contract “buyout proof” because it’s fully guaranteed. In the financial world present money (aka signing bonus) is worth more than future money because you can accrue interest in that time.

nd You know nothing about contracts., and are only trying to support your silly narrative . Read you silly narrative, you said NOTHING about signing bonus. You just mentioned bonuses. By the way, all salaries are guaranteed not just signing bonuses. And you certainly don't know what what was offered by Sens, or what Brady has requested. And any NMC could only be in place starting in year 5 of his new contract.

Doesn't make the contract any more buyout proof, though I team would be on the hook more for money per year if they happened to buyout a player with a front loaded contract.
You're right, rich teams most like can offer to these large signing bonus or front loaded contracts, and certainly the players like it.

A contract becomes buyout proof when the cost to buy the contract out, plus the cost to replace the player with a minimum salary player ($750K) exceeds the current cost of the contract.

Look at Austin Matthews contract, or Marner, or Tavares, they all exceed that point and are therefore buyout proof, solely because of the guaranteed signing bonus money. It would actually cost the team more to buy them out than to play and pay them.

There is another consideration, Melnyk would have to have the signing bonus money ready to be paid long before the season begins, and therefore before that contracts season is earning revenue from ticket sales. Signing bonus money is paid from the previous season's earnings, and Melnyk is very much a rob Peter to pay Paul kind of guy, and he needs the current season's earnings to pay the players.

I believe the original offer came from a Sens fan, @gavinray...here: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2786611

I was just aggregating all the Brady-to-NJ offers and ranking them.
I don't think NJD would move Bratt and Holtz, but maybe I'm wrong.
He is cousins with our GM.

The four bullet points in the link below provide a easy to follow.

Tavares is a good example on the buyout calculator so you don’t have to deal with the nuance of a under 26 year old player.
