If that would’ve happened I would’ve cried. Heiskanen is IMO able to be a top 5 defensemen if he decided to play well, like he did in the bubble.

I used to dig him as one of the top D-men, but this is the year he needs to prove himself. He's playing with a Vezina winning goalie and with one of the highest salaries in the league. He needs to perform. Otherwise he's like Risto without playing in a cancerous team.

Imo it would've depended on how much Nill would've paid. I wouldn't have been inherently against bringing Jones in, but the cost CHI paid for him was insane.

It’s more of what contract he would’ve gotten, imagine our Klingberg negotiations if we just gave a worse dman 9.5 million. We would’ve shot our selves in the foot.

That's another aspect of it too, although I probably wouldn't have signed him long-term in the first place, unless he actually played well. Lindell-Klingberg, Heiskanen-Jones would've been just great imo.

I'm not at all shocked Jones is getting highlighted as the top defenseman for the US. He's the quintessential eye-test player and has been hyped as being underrated or underappreciated for years, even by many users on this site. He's the Doughty of America but doesn't have the rings or hardware to actually back up that title.

I think his stock is going to sour over the years like Karlsson and OEL did, so I hope he enjoys the notoriety he's getting.

Personally I would take Dell over Wedgewood.

Dell’s numbers were pretty bad last year. But he was my 2nd option behind Wedgewood.

Dell just got waived though i think so we'll know soon enough

Keep in mind he was on a not-so-great Devils team that dealt with Covid. Might've just been circumstance.

Outside of waivers the only other real backup option would be Dubnyk.
