Both CLB goalies are severely underrated. Maybe because they have a ****ty defense.

I still dont understand why EDM and Toronto didn't go after Korpisalo.

Because Mrazek is better than Korpisalo (though he isn't better than Merzlikens, this was too much for the leafs).

Toronto made the right move I think.

CBJ have admittedly been asking a lot for Korpi. Most people around here severely underrate him, but I’m not sure he is worth a 1st. This signing may signal a Korpi deal soon, or at least CBJ shifting to aggressively shop him.

Korpisalo is a cap dump.

The issue I have with this contract is that Elvis is being paid like a starter, and yet he's never held that role in the NHL. He played 33 of 70 games in 19-20 (47%) and 28 of 56 in 20-21 (50%). Can he be a 60-game (73%) starter in the NHL or is he a very good tandem goalie? I don't think we know the answer to that question yet. There's nothing wrong with being a very good tandem goalie, but you don't pay those guys $5+M, they're in the $3M range. Think Chris Driedger.

If I were Jarmo I would have waited until Christmas to see whether Merzlikins can handle 70+% of the starts effectively.

Korpisalo's past 4 years:
17-18: .897
18-19: .897
19-20: .911
20-21: .894

Mrazek's past 4 years:
17-18: .902
18-19: .914
19-20: .905
20-21: .923

The odds are that everyone else will be laughing at you.

Yeah, a 2nd would be a more adequate price. Maybe they ask for a 1st because Toronto would need to send cap money the other way to afford him.

My guess is that they keep both to try to keep to puck out of the net, try to resign him and trade him at the TDL when they'll fail to do so...

They've already signaled as much, largely due to Kivlenieks' passing. Id be intrigued to see if they try the sign-and-trade strategy at the TDL, because I highly doubt they re-sign him to stay in Cbus - Tarasov is in the pipeline and needs the NHL experience, and Korpi has made it clear he wants to be "the guy" before.

It's been the thing about Korpi - he actually is a goalie who needs to start. His rookie year he was great when Bob and Mac were both out and he became the defacto guy. When he was relegated to Bob's backup, he floundered. When he got the opportunity to be the starter two years ago, he was an all-star; but, he got hurt, Elvis came riding in, and the rest has been history.

Clever, but 1 x $2.8M is not 3 x $3.2M, Mr. Kassian.

Korpisalo's past 3 years:
18-19: .897
19-20: .911
20-21: .894

Shall we go back and look at Kassian's past 3 years? tears of joy

Here is Columbus' top-6 and their 5v5 G/60 over the past 3 years and where Kassian fits into the picture:

1. Bjorkstrand: 1.27 G/60
2. Kassian: 0.78
3. Laine: 0.72
4. Voracek: 0.59
5. Jenner: 0.58
6. Nyquist: 0.56
7. Roslovic: 0.49

You apparently have a whole team of cap dumps. tears of joy

None of whom played 1190 minutes with Connor McGretzky, a man who could turn Ryan Reaves into an all-star.

I get it, this is the hill you want to die on. I wish you and Ken Holland all the best on it.

I'll be enjoying a winning team - you have fun watching the draft lists & praying for lottery luck all year.

He's only 27, entering his prime. I'm confident tenor.gif

The Oilers are spending $5.55M on their top 3 RW's. The Jackets are spending $14.575M on their 3 best RW's. Which team do you think is going to get better bang-for-their-buck?

What are you spending on your top two centers?

Like, for real man, he’s Zack Kassian. Why are you getting so worked up…about Zack Kassian?

$21M. Best bang-for-buck in the league, too.

I’m certain McDavid and his growing case of Stanley Cups agrees.

And my man, you’re the one who has followed me across two different threads just to make some weird point about Zack Kassian not being a cap dump if he were to be traded.

again, it’s your hill to die on.

Honestly, not sure what to make of this signing. Elvis has shown he can thrive in a 1A-1B tandem, but he's never proven he can be a legitimate no. 1 starter, he hasn't played enough games in an individual season, let alone in his NHL career overall to warrant such a lucrative extension. He's 27 so he's just entering his prime, but I'm thinking he may already be the full sum of his parts at this point

Well, at least he's honouring Matiss with this extension, more or less

Overall, I think there is a somewhat plausible chance this bet goes the Jacket's way, but I wouldn't get too optimistic
