Elvis has been a MUCH better goaltender in the NHL than demko. I'd much rather have Elvis.

Excellent deal for the Jackets. Elvis is a fantastic goalie who is only going to improve.

Well I don't know about improve. He's 27. He just feels young as he came to the NHL late. He's solidly in his prime.

But he doesn't need to improve. He was a #5-10 goaltender in the league the last two years. He just has one thing left to prove, similar to most of the goaltenders signed this summer: he needs to prove he's an every day starter

Good for Elvis. I think he’ll prove he’s worth this contract for the life of it. If this team is in any way competitive this year, feels like it’s going to be because of him.

And we can finally be done with all of the Elvis to EDM ACGMs!

I mean, in terms of age, yeah, but I think there is room for improvement solely by virtue of more experience at the NHL level. Dude played the majority of his career in those big ol’ European rinks.

I really like this deal. But the Jackets are in for a rough season. That roster is pretty weak.

I think Elvis will be worth it but either way the CBJ have a ton of cap space going forward so it won’t be too bad unless he plummets like Jarry or Murray.

Jarmo is generally a pretty good gm. I think he can turn this team around fairly fast. He's got some good young pieces/prospects and solid enough veterans that can get return at the tdl.

Between that and weaponizing his cap space I can see him turning it around by next year or the year after.

To me the big question is where their future #1 c is coming from

Becayse korpisalo is legitimately one of the worst goalies in the league over the last 6 years and just overrated for a single 9 game run a yearish ago

Compare him to the goalies who have been on the same team.

The leafs goalies over the last while have generally been poor. Not the team making them look bad (though more recently better).

Korpisalo has had a below 0.900 save percentage in 3/6 of his seasons and below .907 in 4/6.

That's AWFUL.

Meanwhile his partner has had a better save percentage and gaa than him for five straight seasons. Only in his rookie season was he better

He's tied for last in save percentage with a 0.905 (Elvis played two years and has a 0.920 and Bob has a 0.915 but would be higher with just his Columbus days)

He jumps to third worst by goals against average.

This isn't comparing to leafs goalies or anything else. He's just legitimately a bad goaltender

If I were the GM, i’d try to get the best deal possible for Korpi at the TDL and hand the backup role to Tarasov for the next season (would have been Kivlenieks had he not passed away).

CBJ have admittedly been asking a lot for Korpi. Most people around here severely underrate him, but I’m not sure he is worth a 1st. This signing may signal a Korpi deal soon, or at least CBJ shifting to aggressively shop him.

Yeah, a 2nd would be a more adequate price. Maybe they ask for a 1st because Toronto would need to send cap money the other way to afford him.

My guess is that they keep both to try to keep to puck out of the net, try to resign him and trade him at the TDL when they'll fail to do so...
