Interesting......

I can see why you would want to acquire Korpisalo, but I beleive Guftavsson will establish himself as the backup (1B) this year. And, although Nedelijkovic went for only a 3rd, I think Korpisalo is a 2nd. But more of a track record.

Moving Stützle outright to centre is gutsy. I am one that thinks the Sens need to test drive that to see if he can play C at the NHL level. If he can, Lebanc makes some sense. If he can't, Sens are looking for a 2C (who just might be Pinto....)

Any case, the package for Lebanc seems a tad light imo. But not so far off base that it's a hell no from the Sharks.

Vatanen on a one year deal I kinda like. Low risk move. Playing him with Brannstrom would be ideal (vet mentor so to speak). But that is not picking.

Labanc, Kevin

Brown, Logan
Greig, Ridly
2022 2nd round pick (OTT)

Not a good trade for Ottawa. LeBlanc might be making $3MM this season, after his signing bonus, but he's due $6MM for each of the next two seasons, and that's 60 point money, and having 56 three seasons ago, followed by two seasons of around 40 points per 82 games, he's too much of a risk.

His PP assists drop dramatically, he had 18 on the PP in 18/19, then 6 on the PP in 19/20, followed by 3 on the PP in 20/21, while his PP time on ice per game remained the same.

190 minutes PP, 5.7 assists per/60
169 Minutes PP, 2.1 assists per/60
119 minutes PP, 1.5 assists per/60

LeBlanc is a 40 point, meh middle6 winger, and not worth $6MM

Why do so much good work looking at assist rates, context etc. and ignore his career 3.3 corsi rel which isn't far from elite- just seems arbitrary all told

Lots to analyze in the Labanc deal but it really just boils down to brown greig and whoever the 2nd becomes fitting their timeline much better

Not to mention the sens are still always off

Seems much more appropriate in 2023 ish

Behind this Ottawa D core Korpisalo would likely post a sv% below .890 which seems basically what happened to murray- it's odd to see him acquired

While it would be interesting to have Jets legend Anton Forsberg back in Winnipeg, the Jets are committed to Comrie for the backup job to start the season.

In his 5 year career, LeBlanc's points per game have been;

0.36
0.52
0.68
0.47
0.51

I was showing why he went from 0.68 to 0.47 and ultimately 0.51

If we remove his rookie season;
0.52
0.68
0.47
0.51

One of these Seasons is not like the others, and that's because he had a lot of PP assists that season. I was showing that, despite his PP time remaining the same, his assists have decreased dramatically. This is why he is a 40 point player, who will make $5.875MM next season.

LeBlanc is not good on the PP. Last season he was the 279th best forward (min 14 games) in the league, while having the 104th most PP toi. He's a first PP toi forward with third PP production.

He's a middle6 winger with a bad contract.

Agreed with everything here but one thing though, I don't think the package for Lebanc is light, at least from the Sens perspective as they are very high on Ridly Greig. I actually doubt they would make that trade. Can't see them not wanting to gamble on Greig's potential (and he has a high floor anyway), it would require a bigger fish than Labanc to include him in a package. A package for Eichel or Hertl would be more likely.

Would you also say that Chris Tierney is not a ~40 assists center? (sarcasm)

Always have to identify the outlier. In this case, it seems to be Labanc's 2018-19 season
