If the cap goes up $1 million, it just maybe possible to resign Reilly. But..... you still aren't carrying a full roster

Yotes will need to fill out that roster. Moving a 2nd for Kerfoot (one I think will be a late 2nd at that) helps in that endevour.

Given they peeled a 1st and 2nd for Dvorak, I have to think a 2nd here is way more than reasonable - and even.likely they can recoup that pick at the deadline.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to give Rielly anything over 7 million. Yeah he will and should get more from another team, it just can't be the Leafs.

The solution? Find someone cheaper via trade or free agency.

I am not about to disagree. Signing Reilly continues to handcuff the team financially.

Merely an exercise to demonstrate it just maybe possible.

I like Lindholm as FA replacement for Rielly.
How much you think he gets

I don't mind him at all. Actually looked at him as a possibility. I would go as high as $6 million per, ideally I see $5 million. Good two way game. Would take pressure off of Muzzin for sure.

What would have to be gauged for that signingnto make sense is the development of Sandin as a legit PP QB. If that isn't there, I think that leaves a massive hole, one that spending the extra $$$ maybe worth.

Not a fan of having two PP units run by forwards.

We can't extend Rielly because his skating is his best attribute and it will fall off at some point IMO.

What do you think of vince dunn via trade? And do you have anyone in mind?

IMO we can't extend him because his biggest strength is his skating which will inevitably fall off as he ages, leaving us with a bad contract on the books long-term.

We were talking about Vince Dunn before, what do you think of adding him via trade after getting his new contract?

I would still like to add him but he doesn't have the term or aav I would like and would be worried about his next contract.

You're on the money here ^ but I think it would take at least 6mill to get him to leave California for Toronto.

I like Dunn, but is he a #1D?
No.
To me would fit perfect next to Muzzin on 2nd pair

Lindholm is solid overall and can fill that #1 roll better other guys I have looked at it.

I really Rielly traded in a package to get Dahlin.
Sergachev is on my list too, no pay TB trades within division

Sounds about right on money for Lindholm.
I would love some more detailed view on Lindholm when it comes to injuries and longevity.

Hampus is an excellent defender without a lot of offensive potential, but would be an excellent partner for Brodie. He has a spotty injury record, but at $5.75 million or below should be a good pickup if he plays back to his abilities this year. (I think that he's been below par for the last two seasons, but those are not a solid basis to draw conclusions from.)

If we are talking long term, yes, get it. Signing him.for 6 years takes him to 33, which I don't think it falls off a cliff that badly. If 8 years, I am.a whole.lot more concerned for sure.

I don't mind Dunn but I guess the question really is what are you expecting from the guy? I feel he's a decent 2nd pair D. Playing him more than that especially with this roster will likely expose his weaknesses.

You're right he's not a number one but I like the depth he would add if Muzzin gets injured. He's not my top choice I just think he'd be a good add.

Lindholm would be better and wouldn't cost assets to aquire, it just depends on how much $ he's looking for in fa.

Rielly should be traded but I think that ship has sailed at this point.

You're 💯 right. My thinking was if we gave him a long-term deal and he started too decline than we'd be more handcuffed assuming we're still trying to compete throughout those years apposed to if we were rebuilding. That being said we need to see what kind of success we have this year and how big of a step Sandin takes if at all in his development.

I agree 💯. He's not a top pair guy I just like him as a nice depth piece if Muzzin goes down again. I think at this point that ship has sailed much like trading Rielly and I have to agree with @Trickster that Linholm is a better option. What do you think it would take to sign him in fa?

Sandin I see as a linch pin in the direction. If he develops as I think he may, Leafs let Reilly walk and they sign a Muzzin-esque type defender, which fall in around $4-5 million, depending on quality.

The other option is signing a more offensive D on the right side and playing Brodie on his offside (which he has done, but not nearly as well)

Same here but at the same time if we can't get past the first round changes need to be made (IMO we're over due for change). I like dubas' approch these last two off-seasons but we need more from our high paid players. I like how Matthews became more of a complete player last year but we need more from everyone or change needs too happen.

I'd sign him for that. I think he would be a bettet fit than Rielly because he's a more complete player and doesn't rely on his skating like Morgan does.
