Henrique and Brown looked good together at the WC. White is more of a RW and is bad at faceoffs and we need a stop gap at 2C for Pinto.

Their cap difference with the retention is like 500k...doesn't mean anything.

They'd need a Mangiapane to make it work imo.

I think Formenton will turn out to be a pretty similar player to Mangiapane tbh, only bigger and faster. Formenton-Henrique-C. Brown would be an excellent 3rd line on a competitor. Unfortunately we need to find a 1C and ideally another top six RW to push Henrique and C. Brown down, unless Pinto and Sokolov develop into that. But yeah if our 3rd line in 2 years was Foementon-Henrique-C. Brown I'd be very happy with that.

Also I don't like this trade, I wouldn't mind bringing in Henrique but I'd rather be swapping him for Zaitsev (we take the bigger contract for the more useful player), or being paid to take him on (not that Anaheim is interested in that though, given that they aren't competitive). He's not a positive value contract, and I'm not ready to give up on White yet. I'm not opposed to trading him (it makes sense to include him in an Eichel package for example), but I don't think he has negative value either, especially to us.

I really feel like the cap floor is the easiest hurdle to overcome I mean Ottawa could sign Neal and gustavsson for 3M$ tomorrow and it'd work

Mangiapane will always be more skilled though and his possession numbers so far in the NHL are quite nice- size an increasingly ancillary factor

I don't think that's necessarily true. Formenton had 7 more goals and 5 more assists in 5 less games in his first AHL season (compared to Mangiapane's first AHL season), and was a higher touted junior player (2nd round pick vs. 6th round pick as an overager, Formenton made team Canada's WJC team). I'm a big fan of Mangiapane and if Formenton turns out as good as him I'll be thrilled, but I also won't be surprised, because the signs have all been there. Being bigger and faster will likely help him adjust better to the NHL as well.

Given Anaheim's need for RW quality and the difference in their ages, I can see the Ducks retaining at least 20% ($1,165,000).
