He's to slow getting caught flat footed to often to survive playing wing in MTL high paced system
He's not physical enough to really lock down a 4th line Center Role

Unless like Armia he decides to change to a more physical style earning his way to more ice time and opportunities
I just dont see Poehling making it past Camp
The first of the year while everyone's waiving dozens of players they'd have to sneak him in as he's no longer Waiver Exempt (meaning he'll likely be 2nd last round of cuts)

Thats assuming he took the Summer off again and didnt hire a Skating coach like Nick Suzuki did at age 19 before his dominant last year in Junior to the Memorial Cups finals
If he did get a skating coach it would unlock a side of his game we've been waiting to see.
In a slower system like CBJ,MIN,WPG or SJS that values Size over Speed he'd likely do a lot better
But MTL has been a speed based system since Molson bought the team.
Each coach they hire has used their system and they have no interest in the John Torterella's out here.

Since when do 4Cs have to be physical? Jake Evans and Eric Staal aren’t/weren’t, and they were great in their roles.

Also, Poehling isn’t waiver-eligible until next season.

Wow some heavy opinions on here. Poehling’s speed wasn’t a factor last season. If anything he looked real good. Especially the 2nd half of season when his game took off. He also played some LW and looked really good.

I think he starts in Laval but he’s so close. I liked his game last year. Kudos to you for suggesting this.

Drouin at centre won’t happen. That caught my eye, much more than Poehling at LW

Honestly, I prefer Drouin at centre with great players than Drouin at LW with an awful centre.

Drouin will be at LW with either Suzuki or Dvorak. Both are really good. So you should be able to sleep better now. Lol
