What on earth is this team doing? Because the Toffoli trade seems like it’s pointing towards full rebuild, but they’re also trying to land big name UFAs. I guess management isn’t opposed to a retool, but just really doesn’t like Toffoli.

This is why it's most likely a MAF/Bergeron/Letang move instead of a long-term to deal to Lindholm or Hertl. They'd fill a need while pleasing their fans.

Toffoli is crazy slow.
From what I heard from hughes, he wants fast players. Toffoli isn't that.
He probably doesn't want any slow players.
Gallagher is another one that's slow, that might be out.

My guess, Petry gets traded in the offseason and Letang sign in MTL via free agency. My question to y’all, would you bring back Chris Wideman next year ? A Right side with Letang Savard and Wideman is decent, Letang can run the 1st PP unit while Wideman run the 2nd Unit. He wins battle and he is pretty good playing under 18 min. Could see him with one of Harris Guhle or Norlinder next year on a bottom pairing role while Edmundson-Letang Romanov-Savard complete the top 4

He'll probably be gone by the deadline, so I doubt he resigns here. If under 1 million, sure! If not, I'd target colin miller instead

Trade whoever you can get quality assets for and them get a better player for free in FA. I mean it's pretty genius as long as you don't have to overpay for a player.

It sort of makes sense in theory, but there’s no guarantees you’re going to attract UFAs, especially if you’re actively trading away good players for futures, because they think that you aren’t trying to win and they won’t be feeling comfortable you won’t trade them. And if there’s any player you trade away it’s not the guy on a great contract with term, since he’s going to be nearly impossible to replace at the same price point. That goes double for people who want to be on the team, since again that really hurts your chances at UFAs wanting to go here.

I disagree here, this isn't NHL 22 where the only thing that matters to players is $$

Look at Toronto with Spezza + Bunting, Both took discounts to play for Toronto. It's not like Montreal is a dead hockey market with no history. There are going to be players that will take a discount to play here. Obviously you have to take into account relationships and history, but this isn't Hughes or Gorton's team so they can at least do it this year

It's good for him tbh. Fans of this team can be very intrusive for any player, I can't imagine what it's like for a local player. Drouin has enough detractors for his hockey persona, he doesn't need all the drama regarding his private life.

Anyway, why would the habs want a defenseman who is a rental. While also trading assests. If it's true, he's probably talking about chychrun lol. Maybe Habs think they could make the playoffs, so they're gonna buy? LMFAO.
