Description
The Canucks have to pay Pettersson and Hughes. An article on The Athletic has an article titled "NHL Trade Big Board" in which they cite several possible trade bate players from all over the league due to various circumstances that each individual team is in or will be in. Boeser was listed as a LOW chance of being traded. But being that they have to pay Pettersson and Hughes, he might be their best chance of freeing up some space and getting a decent return. So being a Hawks fan (somewhat reluctantly due to all the controversy surrounding the organization) I figured I would see how this could possibly work for them. In my opinion, an upgrade on the RW would be welcome. And he could possibly be an affordable longer term piece for the club after the next couple of seasons as cap space free's up a bit for Chicago.

What I am not sure about is how a trade between these two clubs would work. So, I'll just slap together something for now and further discussion and suggestions are welcome.

I don't think VAN is in quite as big of trouble cap wise as we're suggesting. Ferland will be sent to LTIR and they'd have $14M without Hughes/Petterson. They could waive guys like Di Giuseppe and Brad Hunt for another $1.55M for $15.55M. Rathbone and Hoglander can slide down without going through wavers for another $2M for roughly $17.5M.
That should be enough to sign both those guys to some kind of deal. Maybe not he perfect term or AAV, but doable.

Probably starts with Reichel and either a first or beaudin/mitchell. That being said, I would welcome Boeser in the top 6

Yeah. I figured as much. But, as I stated in the description, I'm not really sure what it would even take. Just thought he would be an attractive piece to add while I was reading that 'The Athletic' article.

Come on now. Boeser is a good player, but Debrincat's scored 41 goals and 32 last year in a shortened season. Boeser's never scored 30 goals in a season ever. VAN would have to add significantly if they wanted Debrincat.

For sure. Like I said in the description, he was listed as having a VERY LOW chance of being traded but was an option, none the less, if Pettersson and Hughes were going to command more money than they could afford in the present or the long term. I'm sure Boeser will be asking for a lot more money next year too. So VAN also have that to think about. Either way, I don't think of this as realistic. Just an idea inspired by that article I read.

Do any of you actually read descriptions? Or do most of you get off on flexing your overly personal perspectives on hockey business? Most REAL trades look something like this. Two young fairly low cost NHL regulars with pretty high potential and a 2nd rounder for someone they might not be able to afford in the near future and will end up getting less for when squeezed by cap restraints? It isn't as "Bad" as you think it is.

I know, I meant more along the lines of "in return for". Just to get the ball rolling on trade talks.

I should of clarified it would of been without the pieces mentioned in the trade above. It would of been more of a 1v1. Maybe the Canucks add slightly but DeBrincat isn't that much better than Boeser. Especially when Boeser is healthy. When healthy Boeser is just as or nearly as good as Debrincat.

That's my fault. Was walking inside when I posted before. Rushed it. 😅

Boeser hasn't stayed healthy for the entirety of his career. If healthy, he's just as good of a player as Debrincat is.

If Cat commands a lot more money on his next contract and cap constraints required the Hawks to do so, then yeah, possibly. And again, read the damn description or shut up. This isn't even a realistic scenario because VAN is in a pretty maneuverable situation. And the idea from the article had him listed as a VERY LOW possible trade piece only if cap constraints end up requiring them to make a move once the Hughes and Pettersson contracts are hammered out.

You think Boeser is worth Debrincat plus? WOW, I'd rather have Debrincat at a year younger and one more year on his contract and has put up 41 goals and 76 points in a season which Boeser has never come close to in a season

So just an FYI about Debrincat's contract. His qualifying offer is $9M once this current deal is up.

Hard to say. Given the concerns and question marks on whether he can stay healthy is the question acquiring GM's need to ask themselves before committing to trading for him. It likely decreases.

But, not by much if at all. IMO. At only 24 years old he still has a pretty long career ahead of him, so the upside chances of him staying healthy are in his favor. Which is why if Chicago is asking I think Vancouver asks for Debrincat in return. Knuck's probably add, but nothing major.

Debincat scores more goals and like you've already mentioned is much healthier. I'm giving the edge in value to Debrincat all day long. He's about as untouchable as it gets for the hawks though

The scenario presented by the article is that Hughes and Pettersson contracts might not allow them to afford Boeser long term. And if it comes to that for VAN then they definitely wouldn't be able to afford Cat. So, taking a couple low cost players that produce fairly well at the NHL level, have some upside that we maybe just haven't seen yet, and a 2nd round pick is where the affordable return comes in. And AGAIN for anyone who wants to complain about it, this is only IF it comes to that for VAN. Which it most likely won't and VAN will be able to go on and continue to build around Boeser, Hughes, and Pettersson.
