Worst case scenario for Flames

Description
After 20 games played it looks bad for them. They have lost 12 games regular time, 2 games overtime and only have a mere 6 wins. Oilers are doing great at the top with Vegas and Kraken are very solid and in a 4th place. This is how the standing looks like in this scenario

1.Vegas
2.Oilers
3.Vancouver
4.Kraken
5.L.A
6.Flames
7.Sharks
8.Ducks

They decide to rebuild. Johnny hockey has no intentions of resigning here so you send him to his hometown team Philly. He is good friends with Hayes. I think a younger version of Gaudreau and a longterm keeper will be what they need. No need for blowing anything up with contracts like Markstrom and the recently signed Coleman. I think for the next seasons they’re only getting better. Mangiapane and Dube are underrated(as an oilers fan) and they will do great in top 6 roles. I think this is what you at least try to do if you’re the flames. No trading Tkachuk. He makes the BOA games fun and is a unique good player. Thoughts on this? Some might not like the Monahan trade but if he bounces back to a 30+ goals 65-70 point pace I think Minnesota makes a good deal.

  1. Konecny, Travis
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2022 (PHI)
Détails additionnels:
Top 10 protected pick. I think this value is fair. Konecny is signed with term and is 4 years younger. The 1st will be great in a deep draft like this. Philly now have Johnny secured for 8 seasons. Him and Hayes together with Joel makes for a lethal 2nd unit to fear. Johnny scores 35+ goals and finishes ppg once again.
PHI
  1. Gaudreau, Johnny
Détails additionnels:
He comes with an 7 year 7.5m extension
2.
CGY
  1. Wallstedt, Jesper [Liste de réserve]
Détails additionnels:
You want to secure a good young keeper for the future
MIN
  1. Monahan, Sean (2 375 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (FLA)
Détails additionnels:
He is what they need and they can sign him for cheaper then give more money after the buyouts of Suter and Parise won’t effect them anymore. I think you give them a 2nd to sweeten the deal. The swedish combo of Markstrom and Wallstedt will be legendary and you know have a good longterm keeper for these next 15+ years. Minnesota already have Kaapo so they will survive without Wallstedt but should they still do it?

Don’t see wild doing that since they traded up at the draft to make that choice.

1) Minnesota has zero interest in Sean Monahan for years under gm bill Guerin. It's been talked about

2) you aren't realistic when you think Minnesota is going to trade a top G prospect of future wild traded up to select

Rather just sign Johnny in the off-season and not give up a 1st and Konecny

You should do one of these for Edmonton now, its entirely possible that their defense and goaltending completely faceplant

Also FYI Dustin Wolf is a top 5 goalie prospect in the league, they have that role covered already

Hard no. Wallstedt was just drafted and is far more valuable to the franchuse than Monahan ever could be. This would be much, much worse than the Dvorak trade we just saw Montreal make

Why would "take that and run" as Minnesota specifically?

people heavily overvalue prospects, especially goalies. Wallstedt probably has an equal chance at being a superstar goalie as he does being a backup his whole career or not even making the league. When you can get a proven fringe #1 center and a 2nd for that, you take it. If you're trying to win.

And some people heavily undervalue prospects. Not all prospects turn into superstars, but all superstars were once prospects.

The Wild aren't trying to win now, and at the moment, Wallstedt is a projected potential star, so we'll take the chance on him pretty easily.

Philly is not trading Konecny for a player they could wait a year to sign in FA, let alone adding a 1st

The Wild aren't going for a cup right now so that's unwise and I definitely have to disagree with how likely Wallstedt is to be a stud or not. He played in imo the 3rd best league in hockey as a draft year goalie. We've never seen a tendie with as big of a role as Wallstedt. And it's not like he played bad at all either. He played quite well and has a really high upside.

Monahan; imo, is an overpaid, average 2C. So the contention argument doesn't make as much sense to me. Plus, the Wild have a very difficult cap situation coming up.
