3 this is the year i feel Fluery finally falls off and not slightly but falls off a cliff

Ok...so imagine a team that was firmly in the hunt for 85% of last season. Now add Toews, Dach, Seth Jones, McCabe, and the reigning vezina winner in MAF...thats getting better in all 3 phases.

Pacific is a weak division, and we are for sure better than NSH + Arizona. Im not 100% sold on Minnesota either. We are at the very least in contention for the 4th/5th spot.

lol what? Kirby Dach has elite 1C potential, who do you not trust to get injured? Fleury just won the vezina, even if he falls off Lankinen is good

Potential yeah but he's 20

On pace for 40ish pts last season

No reason to expect he'll excel this year

PS

Lankinen ended up at .909 last season all told 😕

Dach is 20

Jones is overrated

McCabe is solid nothing special

MAF way overdue to fall off a cliff

Toews might do that too at 33 now

🙁

I'm still glass half empty for them

Yup

Fleury perfectly set up for down year on all levels, Lankinen finished at .909 last season and the D core is underwhelming in every way... not great Bowman

F core too reliant on a pair of 33 year olds

I could see Dallas and Stl struggling next season and coupled with Arizona being historically bad they could very well sneak into the last playoff spot... but

Very limited team on every level 😬

Lots of questions with this CHI team but they are in the Playoff mix. I think both WC teams come out of the Central, and they are already better than AZ and NSH. That mean they only have to be better than one of MN, DAL, STL, or the Jets (I have COL as a top-3 lock). One bad run of luck can knock any of these teams (CHI included) into a bottom feeder pretty quickly.

You're right. You're glass half empty. I tend to be both bias and in my humble opinion more realistic. Reigning vezina winner and Jones has Norris votes 4 of the last 5 years...AND imo the only reason people love Werenski so much right now is because he wasn't forced into the Torts meltdown because he was injured which gives him a pass. I love their moves. Toews back too. ALL of these guys added doesn't mean cup contender, but I think they'll be better than NSH and DAL by a bit.

I know you're a NSH fan and I've actually been to a bunch of NSH games, but I don't they're on an upward trend. Losing Ellis and arvidsson will hurt.

Chi Finishing 25-30th and not winning either lottery pick will suit the Jackets just fine.

They didn’t like that very much.

Chicago has made positive moves to push for a playoff spot this year, but in a tough central division I don’t know if they’ll be able to get in. They’ll definitely be close though.

Okay, just cuz I know the hawks fans on this site love it when I do this, time for me to play devils advocate.

I wanna point a few things that has correlates to last season. To get the easy point out of the way (and this is no shocker from me), Dach IS NOT a solid 2C. Period. End of story. Does he have the potential for it, maybe. To this point, he still only makes me think of a mark stone-light who doesn’t score goals. I’d be fine with him on the wing long term but I know others on this site will disown hawks management if such a choice was made. Suffice to say, centers make the players on their line better and Dach wouldn’t do that with Kane and cat.

To the point of strome being a 2C, same story as Dach, he doesn’t make others better, it’s vice versa. Plus, be honest, you all know the chances he’s here next year are slim to none.

To exo’s point, who’s point I truly respect, I have my concerns. Yes the hawks were in the playoff hunt last year. However, an almost paradoxical moment happened last year where the hawks finally fizzled out and went on a losing streak where they dropped out of the playoffs. Paradoxical how, you might ask? Well, said losing streak started immediately when Dach was rushed back from injury. The hawks lost twice as many games when Dach came back. As for the incoming signings and those returning from injury, I’ve already made clear my expectations for many of them. However, I fear that many are still coming in as losers (McCabe, Dach…..), in poor form (Jones), or question marks (MAF, Toews). Keep in mind this is a deeply cynical dive, but what ties it all together is the man behind the bench. No matter the team, remember that it’s JC that needs to pull them together. Does anyone truly feel comfortable with that?

Ledge and diary, as I already addressed the Dach question, which I’ll again rehash by saying at this moment it’s just potential (and that potential really need to get the **** moving), let me address MAF. MAF was done dirty by Vegas, pure and simple. I think it’s awful that he’s been forced out of there after an amazing season for them and now coming to a team in Chicago shrouded in controversy and a mortgaged future for the sake of one for title run. That all being said, yes, he seems motivated. If he stays healthy, there is nothing to suggest he’d play bad, but if it gets to lankinen, then I’m worried. I genuinely believe he took a turn last year not cuz he was cooked, but cuz he was figured out.

1st of all. Thank You! I very much respect your opinion too. I don't view this quite the same way. They were sellers at the TDL. Janmark, Soderberg, taking on the cap dump of Connolly for a couple of Stillman games last year, but mostly prospects. And just an overall deflated mentality knowing you're out of it. Why I like the additions so much (Probably too much to be honest and I do need to simmer down a bit) is because we got the hardest pieces to get. We can debate whether or not MAF is Vezina caliber next year. We can debate whether or not Toews is a #1C next year. We can debate whether or not Seth Jones is a #1D next year, BUT those are literally the 3 hardest pieces in the NHL to get...and the Hawks got all of those position. #1C, #1D, Reigning Vezina winner. Murphy down to the #2RD is going to allow him to focus on being the next Hammer...not the next Seabrook (in his prime) which is what he was trying to be. When you add at the top...the rest of the jobs SHOULD be easier.

I do have questions about JC. I put him on the hot seat not because I think he's a terrible coach, but because he just lost his excuses. That's just me though. I'm READY! GAME TONIGHT!!!!

All well said, suffice to say I like that you and I are essentially the foil of each other opinion. You represent one side and I represent the other. One can only hope that everything you have framed comes to fruition how it should, cuz I fear that all the pieces brought in are indeed a last ditch effort for a generation.

That being said, you are 100% correct, excuses are over. Everything this season is now firmly planted on the players and coaches. Game on indeed.
