The buyout was because it was time for a culture shift and Guerin didn't want them on the team anymore, not because they weren't competent players. Although Parise isn't much of a competent player at this stage.

Definitely not Suter. Retaining 50% makes him moveable (he signed for about that much after the buyout). Unless he was being uncooperative with his NMC. Even then, two buyouts that significant at the same time is bad.

Parise is barely a bottom six forward at this point, and Suter routinely gets his doors blown off by opposing players... consistently.

Neither is worth their old cap hits. Which we would of been stuck with, with or without them.

It also negates any and all chances of being hit with potentially even heavier Recapture Penalties than the costs of the buy outs by taking the decision out of both players hands and back firmly into the teams control. Before there was uncertainty, whereas now, Guerin can properly prepare for and actively deal with a known cap hit.

I doubt he would've wanted to waive and that was way more risky anyways. Yes, this way it's a bigger penalty than 50% retention but there was always the possibility of cap recapture from him retiring. Which would've been worse than anything if he was moved. And judging how he was pretty upset with Guerin for buying him out, I wouldn't have ruled out him retiring early to screw over Minneosta out of spite.

Saves cap and opens up the roster, I don't have a problem with it. No matter what the Wild did with these guys it was never going to be pretty. They were really poorly aging contracts to say the least
