It's not close. Olofsson has zero value to Edmonton. He's 4 years older and he SUCKS at 5v5 scoring, can't defend, isn't physical, etc.

It's not a question of who adds, this isn't a trade Edmonton considers for a second.

Olofsson is 4 years older, but he's more established and the better goal scorer as of now. Yamamoto is much younger and has a higher ceiling, and probably creates more offense and works harder. If I'm the Oilers I'd probably just keep Yams, but value is close I guess

Olofsson only scores on the PP though, and Yamamoto doesn't get PP time in Edmonton (neither would Olofsson) so we can't say who is the better scorer on the PP. At 5v5 (by far the largest game state) it's Yamamoto without a contest - Olofsson is one of the worst 5v5 goal scorers in the league. He's really bad, and it's because he's a perimeter player who won't go to the high danger areas.

The value isn't close.

From an oilers perspective I’m more against the 4.7 than the 1-1 swap. I like yams work ethic and think he had a higher ceiling but if I was to bet on which could help Edmonton more this coming season I’m sorry I have my doubts about yam.

The numbers are clear for Olofsson - I posted a link in post #4. There's no comparison AT ALL - Yamamoto is the better player - and I haven't even touched defensive metrics yet.

Haha I knew you’d comment on that one. I still really like the concept of a second pp unit that is good enough to justify cutting down a bit of the top units time. It would be nice to be able to roll the top line right back out there after the pp could catch a tired pk unit even if they get the change it could prevent a momentum swing that often comes from a killed penalty.

The Oilers had the best powerplay in 40 years and you want to change it up and cut the first units ice time. Yeah, I don't follow the logic.

Haha I know. Just a different approach that will improve 5-5 numbers.

No it won't though. The way to improve 5v5 numbers is to get better 5v5 players in the bottom-6, which is what Holland is trying to do.

Acquiring Olofsson works directly against that as he's a poor 5v5 player.
