Depending on how bad the Pettersson situation is, it's hard to see Vancouver making this trade due to positional need and the risk of Kaprizov going to Russia. More likely that a team like Columbus takes on the risk by building a package around Laine (a lot of risks would be involved in that trade though). The Pettersson deal is a no brainer for Minnesota imo.

That's the risk with Russian players for sure. From any other player a threat to go play in Russia for lots of money is almost certainly a bluff, but there's more positives for a Russian player for sure. From what he's proven $9x5 seems right or even a tad generous, but it's hard to know what's making him hold back... the money or wanting to know Minnesota is going for it before he signs long term.
