Problem #1: switching waivers-exempt Vilardi for Brooks adds roughly $170,000 to LA's cap space for an aggregate of $2.9 million. Rielly's cap hit this year is $5 million. So you'd have to take Olli Maatta back in this deal, because acquiring Rielly would make him redundant in any event.
Problem #2: we have plenty of high-quality forward prospects (Andersson, Byfield, Fa-ge-mo, Kaliyev, Madden, Thomas, Turcotte) that Brooks is redundant.
Problem #3: Rielly is a fine player, but Vilardi and a 2022 or 2023 first is a very high price for a rebuilding team to pay. We might want to wait one season and make him an offer that costs us nothing but money.
