Friedman said that Vancouver is talking long term with Hughes and the number starts with 8. But Also said pettersson deal wasn’t as close. Apparently kaprizov deal is what will set the market for pettersson so they’re waiting on that.

Yeah they definitely are. Apparently the reasoning behind Hughes long term is because of what Vancouver has seen happen with other dman signings, they want to avoid a 9+ million deal.

I can understand that for sure, don't blame them. But if Petey is waiting on what Kaprizov gets, and if the rumours about what he is asking for are true, I don't see a deal getting done any time soon.

To me they should be going long term with Pettersson and bridging Hughes, understandable about these ridiculous dmen contracts and trying to avoid the same with Quinn though.

Thought I heard the Hughes deal was done just not official because the Canucks were worried that Pettersson would receive an OS. Would make sense that they would announce them at the same time or sign Pettersson first for the protect against the OS and figure the Hughes deal out after.
