Mcdavid in his last 20 games had 44 points. Kakko and Laf combined for 38 combined points.

McDavid = 3 1sts round draft picks, Laf, Chytil, Lundkvist, Miller and Kravtsov. Honestly I don’t hate it cause we’d have McDavid, Mika, Panarin, Kreider,, Kakko and a rental or free agent as a top 6 forward core. The d would take a hit but we’d be left with Fox, Trouba, Lindgren and maybe Jones in the top 4 with Nemeth and Schneider as the third pair. If Kakko needs to be subbed for Kravtsov so be it. It’d be a little weak on the right side, but the left side and center position would be loaded. Actually for one year while we still have him you just move Strome to RW and let Kravtsov/ Kakko take the other. People will still say not enough cause he’s the best player in the planet, but it’s not awful.

Personally I'd look into trading for Draisaitl. Slightly lower trade value, but just as big of an impact for the Rangers. Not to say McDavid at that rate + Laff/Kakko wouldnt happen, I just believe that if the bottom of the squad is not reliable enough, that at least 2 of those 1st rounders could be lottery picks

You can't get the best player in the sport without including at least one of your first rate assets - them being Panarin, Lafreniere, Fox and Shesterkin in this context. Maybe Kakko too.

One of those five is a must. Two of them is preferred. Three of them is understandable. Four or more is just overkill and doesn't make sense for NYR's standpoint.

It would def cost:
Panarin or Zibanejad (with extension)
Lafreniere or Fox
Schneider, Miller or Lundkvist
Kakko, Kravtsov or Chytil
2-3 1st round picks

Panarin's NMC prevents him from moving so it's Zibby. Fox is just too important for their whole D core. Lundkvist is a solid prospect and could form a solid pair with Broberg. Could see them going after a C if dealing McJesus.

Filip Chytil
Nils Lundkvist
2022 1st round pick
2023 1st round pick

In other words, it's the OPs original trade but with Kravtsov, Blais and a 1st changed to Lafreniere, Strome changed to Chytil and Schneider swapped to Lundkvist.

Seems much better to me than the original suggestion.

I get that this is hypothetical but in reality Fox and Panarin are not available. Fox refused to sign in Calgary and then forced his way to New York from Carolina. He wants to play in the NE USA. Panarin refused to re-sign in Columbus and I believe wanted a major city with a big Russian community, Edmonton is not that to say the least.

Maybe someday if McDavid requests trade...maybe.
