If Brady Tkachuk refuses to sign an extension before 19h30 ET on October 12th

Description
This is what is said about the Cap Floor on Page 260 of the current CBA:

"No Club shall, after commencement of the regular season, be permitted to have an Averaged Club Salary that falls below the Lower Limit for that League Year."

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/CBA2012/NHL_NHLPA_2013_CBA.pdf

7:30 PM ET on October 12th is when the NHL Regular Season commences.

That's the start time of the 1st game of the NHL regular season, which is between Pittsburgh and Tampa.

We are still well short of the cap floor.

If Brady Tkachuk hasn't signed by October 10th or October 11th, we'll need to do something quick.

So, I would propose a 1-year offer-sheet for Kailer Yamamoto of the Edmonton Oilers at slightly over 4.1 million, the maximum where the draft pick compensation is a 2nd round pick.

If either of these two things happen:

    1. Brady Tkachuk is going to sign with us before October 12th ...

    OR

    2. We are able to make a trade where Ottawa has a net gain of at least 3.2 million to its cap hit before October 12th ...

then forget this idea even happened.

If you have any better ideas than an offer-sheet for Yamamoto in case Brady refuses to sign an extension, please let me know in the comments.

It's an easy solution, Shirley there are some UFAs out there or some mid cap players teams would "dump" on Ottawa for cap purposes.
But the most logical solution for the Sens if let's say the Sens are 6m short at the beginning of the season. Dorion signs Eugene Melnyk for 7.5m, Melnyk is waived to the AHL for cap hit of over 6m.

Certainly it is not Tkachuk's best interest to sit out this year or any the four years he is under Sens NHL "control"

      1. The Oilers would be over the cap if they matched.

      2. This is at least 1.5 million more than what he's worth.

Make it 2 years on the offer-sheet if he also refuses to sign.

      3. I also asked if there are better ideas than offer-sheeting Yamamoto in the event Brady refuses to sign by October 12th.

      1. The UFAs out there have no upside whatsoever and are not wanted by any NHL club as of right now.

      2. Asking a team to dump someone on us would involve a cost for that other team, probably draft pick(s), to which they might refuse to pay.

Oilers would be able to match it is a bind and they would have to go with a 21 man roster. I can show you if you need....

If you looking to add cap we have mikko im sure the oilers would love to dump some where!!!

IF you are going the offer sheet route why not go for petterson with a 10.2 mill AAV offer sheet... Better player getyour cap floor. Van only has 13 millsion to sign him and hughes....
if they match which they would they only have 3 mill left for hughes in which case people need to get moved with some decent sized contracts.

I mean they’d be better off signing Karl Alzner at 1 year for $5 million. That makes Brown easier to trade, and whatever team he ends up on doesn’t have to deal with his QO.

      1. Mikko has a 15 team no-trade list.

If Ottawa is on that list, then it's not possible.

If Ottawa not on that list, dumping Mikko will cost a 2nd round pick or the equivalent.

If you're referring to Koskinen, this is what I have to say:

      1. Mikko has a 15 team no-trade list.

      2. If Ottawa is on that list, then it's not possible.

      3. If Ottawa is not on that list, dumping Mikko will cost a 2nd round pick or the equivalent.

I know that when you're doing a challenge like a draft to glory or you sell everyone and have 10 firsts, the best way to reach the floor is to sign some scrub ( preferably a player with a really good name ) to a max deal

I think there are teams who come October are no compliant and will be willing to "give" Ottawa some players.
Thinking of the Leafs and Mikheyev...an NHL forward. Not saying the teams would want to give the Sens anything else, but it helps both team short term.

Also Kassian and turris are cap dumps.
