TOR
2022 3rd round pick (BOS)
OTT
Der-Arguchintsev, Semyon

I don't understand trades like this. If the player is in the AHL, and isn't making the team, he isn't a part of the ACGM, so why trade him? Is someone actually going to say, why isn't Der-Arguchintsev in the lineup?

Ottawa declines

Do you really think THAT defene is going to provide an improvement on last year's playoff performance?

Der-Arguchintsev's entire North American professional career consists of 6 games with the Marlies. In what universe does that history command a third-round draft pick?

isn't this the same question you would ask why a player with no NHL experience gets drafted 1st overall? It is based on potential

Der-Arguchintsev is potentially not worth a 3rd, to Ottawa

not sure i really like this trade, i do like moving riley and not loosing him for nothing. my opinion would be to trade him but if you are trading Robertson it should be a top pair defensemen with some term or a solid top 6 winger with a good deal.

Gurianov, Denis ---------------------he has had 2 seasons around 30 points
2022 2nd round pick (DAL) ------------- magic beans
2022 4th round pick (DAL) -------------- probably a non player
2022 5th round pick (DAL) ------------- probably a non player

DAL
Rielly, Morgan - solid top 4 defensemen, only 1 year left on contract
Robertson, Nicholas - solid prospect and probably one of the leafs top prospects, could turn into a top 6 winger.

This is an easy no for OTT. We have too many forward prospects in our system that are already showing more talent / potential.

Even if he was worth a 2nd or 5th, Ottawa already has a million projects to evaluate. They won't spend a pick to add another one. A pick delays and buys a bit of time, allows you to get a project for later down the road. And if we're talking about players below 6'0 and 170 lbs (like SDA), the guy better be playing like a wrecking ball ala JG Pageau or Ridly Greig. Ottawa really doesn't like "soft/weak players" even if they are skilled.

To put things in perspective and to show how there's a massive logjam incoming, just since the beginning of last season, they waived Rudolfs Balcers (will be at least a good 3rd liner), they terminated Filip Chlapik's contract so he flew back to Europe (for now), they traded Wolanin/Lajoie/Jaros for AHL players/picks and Vitali Abramov is now gone to the KHL for 2 years. Former 11th OA pick Logan Brown hasn't gotten a chance to crack the Sens lineup in nearly 2 years (ok, covid and injuries played a big role) and highly regarded Erik Brannstrom might be traded because there won't be a long term spot on LD for him. They also let Joey Daccord go to Seattle without trying to retain him as the goaltending position is/will be logjammed as well.

Not at all. A first-overall draft pick is being gauged against only his contemporaries. The standards for a third-round draft pick encompass everyone from guys coming over from European leagues to players with more than a dozen years' experience in the NHL. Moreover, right now, as someone who isn't even your best center prospect, SDA doesn't have the potential of a third-round pick like Topi Niemela.

He's not traded as a cap dump at all. The 3rd round pick is going to Toronto

A cap dump would mean the asset is added to SDA.

For anyone wondering about the SDA trade he has looked awful this dev camp. He has skill but not there at this point and the bigger players are pushing him off the puck like nothing
