You've really helped out the Oilers and their cap with Kassian trade. Think you could get more from Oilers and the Canadians. Sabres better hope Glass is a good NHLer and Fabbro rebounds to be a good NHLer, or else that is waste basically trading Johansen and his contract for Eichel.

Nah, this is a downgrade for Edmonton in a year where they're "going for it". I don't think they'd do it, cap aside. Kassian can be a pretty intimidating player and he has soft enough hands to inside-out guys and score goals too. I think they'd rather bet on a rebound year than trade him for 50 cents on the dollar.

Thanks for your analysis. Yea the thinking is getting rid of Kassian's cap....especially for next year when the Oilers need cap. I like Kassian...when he at his best. But seems he goes into long stretches of poor play. But as you suggest if he can rebound, he's well worth his contract.

For sure. I'm a huge Kassian believer and if he bounces back and uses his speed to his advantage then he is an insane player

Agreed. I think moving Kassian's cap is a next-summer thing, and I think it could happen whether he has a good season or not. If he has a good season they'll get an asset back, if not, than they'll be sending an asset or buying him out. IMO.

my opinion is they need Kassian if he returns to his former self. If he doesn't they sure don't. You see the impact someone like josh anderson has in the playoffs, kassian is that guy. The only position i see edmonton having trouble filling due to his contract is goalie. I'd rather see edmonton get creative and trade for someone like Kudobin with 50% salary retention and bring up someone like stuart skinner as a 3rd goalie to make the cap work that way.

I’d be willing to bet they do this year. Next year edmonton would have to waive skinner or go with a smith-skinner duo. I’m not convinced either would happen.
