Red Wings pass. Fabbri has been on pace for 50 points over an 82 game season with Detroit - a team that struggles to score. I think he’ll be kept on a 2-3 year deal until some of our younger kids are ready for top minutes. He does have an injury history, but I think Yzerman will keep him around unless an offer blows him away.

He's an UFA. It would be foolish not to trade him. If he wants to sign in Detroit, he can do it at the end of the season.

How often do you see teams trade players and then sign them again in free agency? Very rare in pretty sure there was one recently but I can't remember who exactly.

That's true, but the player has to want to be there.
If the plan is to keep him around on a 2-3 deal, that's probably not going to work.

You have him playing top line on your roster.

Do you really think you can trade for top line wingers with a busted 6th rounder and two 3rd round picks?
