Don't think the red wings look to make that trade

You want Rielly with an extension AND Mikheyev but don't offer anything valuable back? .. why would any team make that trade? It starts with Vilardi going to Toronto if you want Rielly alone.

Detroit passes neither Lemieux or Roy are worth a 2nd or a 3rd. Maybe Colorado's 4th value wise but Detroit has no use for either

These trades leave $17M for next season, to sign:

- Cal Petersen ($4-5M)
- Gabe Vilardi ($3-5M)
- Mikey Anderson ($2-5M)
- JAD ($1-2M)
- Lias Andersen ($1-2M)
- Brown ($2M)

If there is anything left, the Kings now have four centers who can play in the top 6, putting Byfield on the 4th line. Have to lean hard on Arvidsson and Kaliyev with limited resources to get another winger, and need a replacement for Walker as Wolanin is a downgrade.

I would make the Athanasiou trade.

There's absolutely no reason to downgrade from Roy to Wolanin just for a crummy second (virtually guaranteed to be no better than #56).

You want Rielly extended AND Mikheyev… for that?

Rielly alone (no extension) would cost atleast something like Kempe, Walker, 4th.

Rielly with an extension ups that price.

Vilardi would probably be included, along with Roy/Walker

And I didn’t even add Mikeheyev, who could probably get a 3rd rounder somewhere.

Kupari or Madden in that Eichel trade, not both. The other four pieces are fair.

Pass on Rielly. Too old and he'll want too much money/term. The Kings should be targeting someone younger. If they really want Rielly for some reason, make him an offer next summer as a UFA and don't give up any assets.

I wouldn't give up Matt Roy unless there's a 1st and more coming back.

The Maatta and Athanasiou trades are fine, but I'm not sure why either team would want either.

Ok but Detroit didn't have to give up anything to get those players and it still doesn't change anything he isn't worth a 2nd even with Lemieux.

So since you didn't "give up anything to get" Dylan Larkin, you wouldn't exchange him for Leon Draisaitl? That's an odd principle to follow.

I think you decided that Roy isn't worth a second so you're grasping at reasons to justify that evaluation.

That is not the case. While Roy is better than those defensemen you listed he isn't a 2nd rd pick better than Stecher and Lindstrom. He probably is a 2nd rd pick better than Oesterle but he was signed because he is comfortable playing either side. I expect to see a lot of prospects coming up and down so it will make juggling the roster easier. Stecher and Oesterle are basically place holders brought in to try and keep Detroit competitive during the rebuild. Stecher will go at the TDL and I wouldn't expect Oesterle to be resigned after his 2yr contract is up. Teams are rebuilding or retooling just don't make very good trade partners.

Now because I respect your opinion and I'm not sure if you saw this ACGM but what do you think of this:

2022 2nd round pick (DET)
2022 2nd round pick (WSH)
2022 4th round pick (VGK)

for

Ryan Lindgren

Assuming that the Rangers are interested in more futures (and I'm not sure that they are), this strikes me as a well-considered exchange. It's similar to the Devon Toews deal, and NY certainly has a surplus of quality LDs.
