Rielly’s value if traded with an extension is more than that.
What you have seen on here does not equal his actual value, let alone with an extension.
Something like Kempe + Walker + 3rd would be way closer. And that may be slightly generous considering the Ristolainen trade.
Edit: let me explain a little more here.
Kempe = mid-late 1st.
Walker = mid-late 2nd.
3rd rounder.
Ristolainen without an extension got a top 15 pick (14th, technically 13th) and a mid-late second.
Rielly without an extension should get more than that. However, Kempe is an RFA so that adds a bit of value.
To LA:
Morgan Rielly
To TOR:
Adrian Kempe
Sean Walker
2022 3rd round pick
That is pretty close to what a “fair” Rielly deal looks like.
Now if we add the extension with LA as part of the deal the value goes up.
If LA plans on being competitive it could look something like this:
To LA:
Morgan Rielly
To TOR
Adrian Kempe
Sean Walker
2022 1st round pick*
*Conditional pick: If LA fails to make the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs they can decide to send their own 2023 1st rounder to Toronto instead*
