I would move a 1st for Dunn because he’s a young high end top 4 D, trading the 1st for a rental/older player would make no sense. San Jose’s main issue is they have terrible goaltending and 25 mill tied up into 3 washed up defenseman.

In this scenerio you have him for atleast 2-3 years and have the ability to sign him longterm. Think of this as the TDL trade for Coleman they gave a first for two years and coleman was a UFA while Dunn is still a RFA. The LHD is the only hole that the isles have. The LHD hole also effects how Mayfield plays which you saw last year. If the isles do go out and get anyone then you waiting for Salo/Bolduc while Playing Greene and Aho not good. Getting Chara to play 2nd pair minutes not good he is too old and slow. Dermott is not suitable to play 2nd pair minutes so as Sami Vatanen. Dehann is always injured. The other guys are just not good enough. In my estimation the isles have 2 years.

Exactly Dunn is not a rental like all the other 1 round trades

The isles really need Raty to pan out and become a 2C (I think he will) to extend their window. If Nelson and Bailey are gone in 3 years that leaves you with a top 9

In my scenario if Dunn is here the isles have to choose between Salo or Dunn, I would go with Salo

I would go with Dunn, but Salo will be a very good 2nd pairing D. Isles D is young, It’s more their forwards they need to pan out . Wahlstrom is well on his way to becoming a top line sniper and Beau + Barzal are already studs

I am very high on Salo, Dunn will be reaching his peak at 26 while Salo is developing at 24

Im high on Salo too, but he likely tops out as a #3 D while Dunn has shown he can be a top pair caliber D. Defenseman prime are usually from 23-29

I don't know if Dunn can be a top pairing Dman he has an issue pivoting to his left side when defending hoping that can be fixed in the future.

Dunn’s offense fell off a cliff last season, his defensive metrics have been strong for the past 3 seasons - but he should be able to bounce back offensively, he has all the tools

If Chara signs that tells me one of Salo/Aho will be in a regular role. Chara and Greene can’t be in the lineup at the same time. Vatanen is a RHD

I think its more likely that Lou will go out and trade for someone like Dermott or Ek Guffersian, can't see why he would not announce the other contracts unless he working on a trade.
