Why is he scared to trade big name players? His tenure as a GM, he never acquired a single top 6 forward

Why would they trade him?

They are looking to be a cup contender. what does moving your #1D do to improve your chances at a cup?

Draft picks are not what we need

Have you not seen the defense market recently? If Rielly is truly willing to take a discount then I would hop all over that. Trading your number 1 defenseman for picks is something you do if you're rebuilding, even if you do trade him you atleast need a defenseman coming back

Also, you are basically saying:
Dvorak’s trade value = Rielly’s trade value
That’s cap

Why would he ever consider trading him unless Toronto faceplants and is out of the playoff race at the deadline

Lets just try and resign him for 7.2 x 7 and then there will be no more annoying Rielly trades like this one

Why do Leafs fans repeat this tired and unrealistic trade?

Also to this ACGM, I think Tavares counts as a top 6 forward

What are your expectations on the Leafs? The answer should be to be a cup contender (I don't need any 1st round exit jokes). Does moving Rielly make the team better? No. Can Sandin play 23 minutes a night? HELL NO. By moving Rielly, EVERYONE knows that the Leafs are out trying to get a top 4 defenseman, and prices will become stupidly high, because teams know that the Leafs are desperate. Instead of making such a stupid statement asking why GMKD hasn't traded Rielly, maybe give the whole situation a good thought. And don't come back with BS like it is bad asset management to let him walk. There are other FA's available next summer if Rielly asks for a stupid amount of money. Ekholm, Klingberg, Lindholm and Pulock to name a few. Relax, sit back and trust that he has done everything he can to make sure the Leafs core is surrounded by the best talent they could have got at those cap hits. It is not up to GMKD anymore, the pressure is on Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie and Campbell/Mrazek to get it done.

Why are you afraid to not trade Rielly?

Toronto is trying to contend. You don't trade off top players for picks in that scenario

The team has 4 top line forwards. There is maybe 1 other team with that.

When does the Kessel cap hit come off the books? If it is at the end of this season that means they only have to makeup 1 million if he signs at 7.2
What do you do with Sandin then because if Reilly is locked up and Muzzin still has 3 years left that's wasting valuable ice time Sandin needs to grow.

Not really, Sergachev has been on the 3rd pair for the past couple seasons. Keefe needs to give Sandin PP and PK time tho

Kessel retention comes of the books after this season and the cap ceiling is expected to rise by $1M to $82.5M. There is your Rielly money IF he signs for that proposed contract. Do you think Hedman and McDonagh are standing in the way of Sergachev? I don't think so at all. It's a luxury to be able to have one of those guys on each pairing. Just like it would having Rielly, Muzzin and Sandin to lesser extent I must be clear and say.
