Vince Dunn is the best option long and short term but you going have to give up a first round and a B prospect

Dermott and Dunn are almost likely not available at all right now due to their teams situations on defence. Can't see Ekholm being available either since reports were that Nashville was trying to extend him. Butcher won't be available right away because he was just acquired and hasn't even played for Buffalo yet.

So toure left with Lindholm and Pettersson - Lindholm will likely cost you a lot, and rightfully so, and Pettersson is coming off a struggling season in which he's overpaid with term. So take your pick from those 2 I guess

I’d be happy with Bellows for Dermott but that would be an overpayment in my opinion.

We have no use for Bellows so I doubt that would be the deal. We have so many LW's with Robertson also needing to get a spot soon. Adding another LW doesn't make sense for us and he won't play up the middle either. Would have to be a draft pick or something else.

It all depends on how much fair the isles have in their LD prospects. Butcher would be cheapest cap wise and asset wise of 2nd pair quality dmen. Dermott is a 3rd pair dman. Ekholm and lindholm would cost a pretty penny. Pettersson would be cheaper than ekholm/Lindholm but only works if the isles don’t have the faith in their LD prospects and they can use the prospects as trade bait.

Nearly every TML post has Dermott move for nearly nothing, I think Dubas has a different opinion but at least a 3rd
Dunn was the darling of STL just a few year past, IMO it would be at least a 2nd and maybe more to get Seattle to trade him as they may have aspirations to repeat what Vegas did.
Pettersson seems to be bit over paid and has a lengthy contract. He may be least expensive to pick up. If Pittsburgh is looking to shed cap, he may be had for a 4th. I think Karmanos must have had some compromising photos of Fitzgerald to get him to include a fifth to take Butcher.
I find it hard to believe that there was not another NHL team that would have given up at least a 3rd and possible a 2nd for him.
If the Islanders are looking to add offense from the Blue line, then Will do that. I do agree, Buffalo may want to keep him, while they have excellent LHD prospects he has NHL experience.

You quoted 9 posts in yours. That is a very large number for cf. I was just commenting about the amount of posts you quoted. It didnt have anything to do with the substance.
As for the substance of your post, dermott for a 3rd makes a ton of sense from every angle. Hes not going to get playing time unless TOR is ok with playing 5 LHDs (rielly, brodie, muzzin, sandin, dermott). He most certainly will get time with nyi and for a cap strapped team (TOR) to pay a guy 1.5 to sit in the press box doesnt make sense. But at this point hes not a top 4 guy. So we arent dealing a 2nd for a 3rd pair dman.
As for dunn i think it will take a 1st maybe a 1st+ to acquire.
Pettersson i agree with you on though NYI isnt really looking to take on term with salo and bolduc coming up soon. (Both should be up by 22-23, with salo probably coming up partway through this year).
Butcher is a guy i dont really like, not sure why i just have this feeling it wont work out. Maybe its that he and trotz wont work out as hes not good defensively. Idrk what it is, but personally i wouldnt be interested.
Im not really interested in ekholm or lindholm as the price will be too high for me. We really need to start restocking the pipeline and considering we havent had a 1st round pick the last 2 years, and picked holmstrom the year before, having our 22 and ideally both 22 and 23 1sts intact at the drafts would be a major boost to our team.
