Holland gets fleeced. Eaves got a 2nd, Hanzal got a 1st/2nd/prospect/3 planets in the solar system. Ken got a player that has cleared waivers twice this season, and a 3rd. Wow.

Vanek should be good for 5-7 goals down the stretch for Florida. That's good for about 1-2 points in the standings. Hanzal was ridiculously overpriced. With a history of recruiting well from the later rounds, a third is more valuable in Detroit.

Vanek is a one way player with one skill set. Hanzal is a much more well rounded player that plays a good 2-way game. GM's and coaches know these things when talking trades. And Hanzal was overpriced.

Hanzal may have been overpriced, but everyone I've seen other than Ott and Vanek have been overpriced. Hell, they got a third for Jurco! Vanek is worth more than a third and a sit-the-pine defenseman this year. It could have at least been a third for the next draft. KH couldn't keep the overpayment trend going. This is on him.

Vanek signed another 1 year deal, down from $2.6 million to $2 million with the Canucks.

Reminds me of James van Riemsdyk of the Maple Leafs, 5 years into the future. Both were 30G/30A scorers. Vanek is 5 years older and 5 years past his prime but still putting up 20G/30A.

Maybe the Leafs dump JVR, and add Vanek at a lower cap hit

31 teams had a change at Vanek at 2m a year (Canucks signing), so obviously their wasn't any takers. Obviously "his value" isn't that high, despite his point total.

This may be more because of need than anything else. Think of all the teams that need a middle six winger. None of them have the cap space to bring him in and fill out a roster. When the trade deadline rolls around, more cap space will be open, injuries may occur, etc. This would give the Canucks a much better opportunity to move him to a team wanting someone to help their second or third line and power play.

The 2 attractions for Vanek are: he will have a good choice of linemates to make him look good, he has a better chance of getting traded to a hot team that can get him a Stanley Cup for a bigger payday with term.

I don't know if there's a private agreement, but I'd bet on players having very high trust in Benning to trade them where they want to go if that was the deal, based on his actions.

The locker room is stable, everyone knows the Sedins and Ryan Miller put in a good word to lay to rest other worries.

[there are 3 different groups daily in training camp right now, Canucks are both rolling lots of dice and also preparing for a trip to China.
That being said, a search on twitter shows Vanek having skated with Eriksson-Burmistrov-Vanek, Eriksson-Sutter-Vanek.
They might try Gagner or Horvat in the middle next, before trying Vanek on the wing with Sedins or Baertschi/Horvat.
Maybe more important than linemates for Vanek is the Canucks had the worst PP last year and are doing everything possible to change that this summer with new coaches and new players. PPG are the easiest way to boost stats and they want to get him a tonne]
