Description
Habs fans wish you well Jesperi. All class on your end, much respect.

Lines with KK as the 1st line left wing. Those forwards are pretty sick.

Huge question marks in nets and at D after Slavin and Pesce though.

Real tight right up against the cap now too.

Dundon still screwed up though, if Carolina offered Bergevin a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, Kotkaniemi would be your property without the bad contract. Ego…

Waivers. You need the cap space if Gardiner is playing.

Waivers. Can’t see you losing him. Lorentz and Leivo could get claimed. Don’t see anyone grabbing Fast at a $2mm cap hit.

You could keep him waiver one of those two though, but then you’re at $200k of cap space instead of $600k.

But he’s good in the bottom 6, why would u waive him . They need him on that 3rd line. Martinook isn’t good enough for the 3rd line

Looks like really long term for Gardiner, fixes your cap issues this year, but still yet another hole to fill.

Fairly convinced they agreed on a long term extension around 4 mill

On the outside it seems like a petty revenge OS but actually it’s extremely calculated

KK is guaranteed to be qualified at $5.185mm minimum even if the team takes him to club elected arbitration next year (and wins). He is guaranteed that salary until becoming a UFA, or he isn’t qualified, thus becoming a UFA even earlier. His agent (clearly) is not a fool. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Carolina won’t get a long term deal for under that cap number.

The only revenge present is Dundon deciding not to give us the 2nd round the pick, preferring to saddle his team with the worse cap hit instead. So good luck signing Necas at a reasonable number now…Seems to me like a whole lot of unnecessary self harm, but the ego can be a powerful thing for many a powerful man…

Rumour has it even before Carolina sent the OS they had a long term deal in place around 4 mill aav

One thing tho… CAR gm isn’t stupid, dude may be held back by a cheap ass owner but he know what he’s doing

MB got schooled.. don’t forget KK recently turned 21 and is a former 3rd overall pick

Carolina also doesn't have to tender an offer him at all. Everyone involved knows KK isn't worth the 6.1 million he signed to, but that was needed to have a chance of the offersheet going through. If KK and his believe that KK will only get 3 million AAV on the open market he would definitely sign a 4Mx3 deal

Total opposite actually!
Offersheets 101: Legal, yes. Taboo, 100%. All it does is spike rfa salaries, which Obviously is taboo for owners. Hence Owner Dundon's personal favour, to All owners, with a calculated kick in the crotch. Kotkaniemi couldn't be happier either. Bye bye Que, hello better future, hello fellow fins, hello nice planned out future deal that would "Not be available for Bergevin". Win win for Dundon, Kotka, owners & Canes. Loss loss for "Mailloux times two" "Bergagain" Bergevin lol. Next 6 years Kotka>Dvorak

Cheap ass owner. You were doing so well in the post then you bomb with that line.

I guess only non Carolina owners who spend to the cap ceiling every year aren’t cheap. Carolina spends to the ceiling every year and he is cheap.

Didn’t say he’s the only one

MB offersheeted Aho in the first place cause he figured the owner wouldn’t want to spend the money (and what compelled Aho the sign it was probably cause he got lowballed in the first place)

And Hamilton.. he wanted to stay but got lowballed to round 6.5 aav, and boom they lost a top tier defensemen

So yeah cheap

So was Galchenyuk once upon a time. Bergevin did pretty good with both the Domi and then also the Anderson trades from that point forwards.

Rumours don’t mean a whole lot, I would hope you’d agree. $5.185mm is the floor he can get if he wants it. And who doesn’t want money?

Bergevin basically traded a young and unproven asset of Kotkaniemi into Dvorak, who’s 25 and signed to a great deal for the next 4 years. So “schooled”? Um, no.

The Kotkaniemi acquisition (and cap hit) may or may not work out for Carolina, but either way, Bergevin’s good with his return. He was even able to lottery protect Carolina’s first round pick in the process to hold onto the upside potential in the event the pick winds up in the top 10.

Once again, shrewd GMing from last year’s runner up (and almost a tie with the winner) for GM of the year.

If they don’t qualify him, then a 1st and a 3rd will prove quite costly for a 1 year rental. KK would be a UFA at that point and would probably find a more desirable destination, and a better contract offer than Dundon’s best offer.

Hasn’t Carolina lost most of their competent hockey minds from Ron Francis on down? No salary cap for hockey ops, coaches, scouts, etc.

I do agree that Brind’Amour is a good one though. But it takes more than just one or two.

Ron Francis is so competent that most of the hockey world laughed at his expansion draft.

You can fault Dundon for his negotiation ability or his strict salary cap structure, but to call him cheap in regards to on-ice talent is false

Contract value isn’t cheap. Its being wise how you spend your money. You can still spend a lot of money but do it wisely. If you have a problem with the team’s contract evaluation system then okay. Calling him cheap is just wrong

We have lost scouts to Francis and Seattle but that is about it as far as I know. Most of those guys knew Francis.

Has our hockey ops or scouts proven to not be competent hockey minds? The last seasons’ results would say that premise is false.
