This reminds me of the Kuemper trade. It's an overpayment for a guy they desperately needed.

Houston is going to be very, very good.

You might wanna look up the % of odds that 1st Rd pick players turn into useful star players.

It's lower than you think.

Roll the dice or throw darts blindly.

That top 10 protection made my vote harder but I see the Habs missing the playoffs outside the bottom 10 this season. If that happens then I like it for Arizona. If Dvorak can pull a Bennett and find the magic on another team then it's a fair trade. Never more than 38 points is tough for a 1st and 2nd though

Despite the heavy price it was necessary

Losing Danault and KK and not replacing at least one of them would not have been good for MTL or for Bergevin's job security. Dvorak softens the loss a bit lets see how he adapts to MTL as he could either do very well or struggle. Still if KK breaks out this season not matching could go down as one of the worst moves in hockey trade history. We will have to wait and see what happens for both sides.

Also helps Arizona try and land Wright over Buffalo so lets see what happens in that department as well when the time comes.

Arizona is in very good hands with Bill Armstrong, it seems. I know it's easy to just tear it down and rebuild, but he's also been willing to launder bad contracts to squeeze 2nd rounders, as well. I like the small and relatively inexpensive swings on Jaskin, Gostisbehere, and Dzingel, as well. I really do hope that they get their arena in Tempe so that they can finally start building a fan base after so many grifters and incompetents have plagued their team.

Watch Bergy trade Dvorak for a 1st and two 2nd Rd picks, later.

He did that with Scandella and Kolvie.

I disagree. Carolina may come out as the big winners here. KK was the #3 pick, is only 21 years old (4 months younger than Svech!), and has tremendous upside as a center. If they lock him up long-term, as it is rumored that they want to do, it could be a massive coup for them if he can take the next step in his development.

Carolina - Trades a 1st + 3rd and overpays for a young "meh" 3rd line center who now has control of his future earnings until he's a UFA
Arizona - Trades a 1st + 2nd for a younger "meh" 2nd line center who will be out of his prime when Arizona is ready to compete. Get's 2 quality draft picks in a deep draft
Montreal - Trades a 1st + future 2nd (gets a 3rd for draft in their home province) for a "meh 2nd line center" with a great contract and heavily improves their incredibly weak center depth

Depends who the Yotes Draft.

Draft picks are wasted all the time,

Ahem the Habs 2021 1st Rd pick on Mailloux.

So right now the biggest winner is Habs.
biggest loser Canes.
fair trade Yotes.

All can change if Dorvak is a fish out of water (American playing in Quebec) and under performs.
Canes sign KK to an extension with a lower cap hit.
The Yotes draft 2 future NHL'ers.

I wonder if KK breaks out what happens with Bergevin. Cause you got to think if KK does very well ownership will not be happy about Berg not matching the OS.

Even though it's reported, KK can now control that and the Hurricanes have no say unless they relinquish his rights for nothing.

If KK has a break out season, that's because he receives better ice time and linemates and better coaching, all things he was never going to get with the Habs.

If KK signs long term for lower than his $6 million OS, than the NHLPA should revoke his membership.

AND Bettman should look into the Canes front office for CBA player contract tampering.

I know it will never happen, but could you imagine if KK refuses to sign anything but his QO and the Hurricanes refuse, only for KK to resign with Montreal in UFA?
