Not gonna lie, this contract has its fair share of risk, but at four years, this isn’t terrible and if he bounces back, this signing is fantastic. Isles are competing, glad Lou managed to keep Palms.
In all these signings I haven't seen a NTC reported yet, if that stays true, Lou is GOD.
At least unlike his former intern (Dubas) he resigned the rental player he gave up a 1st Rd pick for, unlike Dubas who traded ; 1st, 3rd, two 4th's, 5th, 6th, 7th and former 2nd Rd pick Korschkov and former 2nd Rd pick Hallander for 6 players (Foligno, Rititch, Hutton, Nash, Galchenyuk, McCaan) he didn't keep.
Really good contract. The AAV is market value, but the term IMO is not. Relative to other UFA deals for players of his talents, the Palmieri deal is quite short at only 4 years. I'm sure that the Oilers or some other needy club would've given him 5 or 6 if he was truly available on the open market.
Gonna be honest, I think I'd rather have Eberle for 500k more and only another 2 years. I don't think this ages well.
How good of a contract this will be, depends on the coach, if Komarov and Martin keeps getting top 6 minutes instead on 4th line minutes than every true top 6 forward suffers.
Palmieri has been a great value player on his last contract with the Devil's. But he declined in the last year relatively majorly and was only okay on the island. This seems most likely to be a bad deal. If last year was a blip and he regains his form this is a fine deal, but not even a bargain. If he continues to decline this is a crappy deal. Seems not worth the risk

Palmieri was flat-out excellent for the Islanders...this postseason. His start was not great, but the Isles always step their game up when the games get important.

That post season was a really small sample size after that regular season. Hence I said okay in a balance of regular season and playoffs
