I'm a Habs fan but as Canes fans do u like the hockey move behind this OS. I get the revenge thing, this is funny and everything even for me but I just want honest thought by Canes fans on a hockey perspective ?

I dont see STL doing that. for one thing they need to save some cap space to get Thomas re-signed. Granted Gardiner will probably be LTIR'd but STL would prefer to do the in-season, not pre-season. Even with Gardiner being LTIR'd, the difference in Fast and VT in this scenario is on 1.3 million which isnt enough space for them.

Obviously the troll is the best part but KK is still 21 and a former #3OA player. Habs were bad for his development so giving him a year under our system may allow us to see his potential. If it works out perfectly we steal a top 6 young F for a late 1st and 3rd. Its a gamble but could pay off big.

heres my thought. KK isnt a 6m player. everybody knows that. do i think he has the potential to be a player worth that much? yes. do i see him achieving that value on the habs? no, not even playing with thei best players. now do i see him achieving that value on the canes? yes, i think its pretty likely especially if he plays on the first line with aho and tuevo but if he is relegated to the third line i dont see him ever being a 6m player. what i think it boils down to is KK being put into a position to succeed and i see him being put into that position with carolina and not with montreal.

Honestly I hope that he will achieve his value with you're team. I'm not even mad about him or the OS. All that is Bergevin fault. He managed the kid poorly and they benched him when he was one of the best goal scorer in playoff to play guys like Byron and Staal. For his development he's way better with you than us.

my thought is this:
We had a similar situation with Lindholm (to a degree) and when he was put on a more free flowing offense and with in more scoring opportunities, his production grew a lot. I figure that is the case here. He was on a 30 point pace last season with 15 minutes a game. What does his production look like with 17 minutes and playing in a freer style? 40? higher? maybe, maybe not.

If we can get him into a reasonable longer deal on January 1st then I believe it is worth it. At the same time, we have the flexibility with only a 1 year commitment to cut him loose if it was a mistake. We have a chance to get a 21 year old center who still has low end 1st line projections but also 4th line projections. We have the core to support his projection which ever way it goes.

Sure losing a 1st and a 3rd would suck if it doesnt work out but, if, if he becomes even a good 2C (needless to say a low end 1C), that 1st and a 3rd is easily worth it. It is a gamble. Im not much for gambles personally when you are trying to win a cup. I would much rather see a for sure thing. I can see the rationale behind it and know if the gamble pays off, the cup window is extended.

If the OS works out, we could end up with a player who has been compared to Barkov in terms of talent and being a late bloomer. If canes end up with someone like Barkov for just a 1st and 3rd, that isn’t just a steal, that would be the crime of the century.

He was healthy scratched for a reason. He was not the best player on the ice for the Canadiens in the Stanley cup playoffs. You can’t blame MB for his coaching putting out the best lineup to get the Canadiens to the Stanley cup playoffs. At that point you aren’t trying to develop you are doing what’s best to win which at the end of the day is what it is about.

Maybe he has potential maybe not but it’s not MB fault that KK had to get health bombed in the playoffs

He may have not been the best but he also probably was better than guys who played over him - and most Habs fans on here have said similar things.

They also haven’t really been developing him before this cup run properly. He should be playing with higher skill players, not grinding it out on the bottom 6.

That’s also the coaches decision not MB. I would say they made the right moves in the playoffs lineup wise.

However, I do agree his development has been poor at best from the Canadiens just looking at his progression. It is hard though to put him in the top 6 when there was two better options even though it may have helped his personal progression
