Two firsts plus two prospects and a goalie that might bounce back to being decent... that's a steep price to pay. Specifically with the 1sts, I'm against trading them away at all let alone two of them unprotected.

The timing doesn't make sense. Those picks are still lottery picks, even with Gibson. The defense still needs to improve and they need to add another top 6 forward or two -- some of this will happen when a few of their prospects make the show, but it'll probably be 2 years before they're really ready to start competing. OTT also has quite a few goalie prospects, so I don't think a trade like this is that necessary. Any way you look at it, it just doesn't make sense for OTT.

Not to be harsh but those YouTube accounts are super lame: they always write the titles to their videos LIKE THIS TO DRAW MORE ATTENTION?! to their mediocre clickbait-y content and as showcased here their ideas are mostly misguided and flimsy

Factoring in team defensive context Gibson has been a .910 goalie the past two seasons and is now approaching 30 and has a lot of term left

By all means unload Murray if possible but trying to win the Timur Bilyalov sweepstakes (ugh the clickbait wording is contagious lol) a much better option

An underrated factor is Murray's cap hit likely doesn't get in the way of their window of contention whatsoever with Stutzle still a teenager

Maybe the final year but just unload him then

And the rest of the roster still so patchy

As John Gibson's biggest fan (as big a fan as CD282 is a detractor), I have a few things to say:

(1) That's too much for him.

(2) For the reasons accurately stated by @villenash, Ottawa is the wrong team for him. He should be going to a near-contender.

(3) Matt Murray?!?!?

Ah, yes, the usual intellectually dishonest cherry-picking. Try comparing just the last two seasons.

You really are shameless.

I was looking at Gibson's fall off the cliff and you know it. Find some recent stats that show Gibson is worth anything close to the trade above. I'll wait...

Matt Murray, playing with Pittsburgh in 2019-2020 = 2.87 GAA, 0.899 save %
John Gibson, playing with Anaheim in 2019-2020 = 3.00 GAA, 0.904 save %

Matt Murray, playing with Ottawa in 2020-2021 = 3.38 GAA, 0.893 save %
John Gibson, playing with Anaheim in 2020-2021 = 2.98 GAA, 0.903 save %

It looks to me like indisputable facts that (1) John Gibson's performance last year was very similar to the prior season, not "fall off the cliff," (2) Matt Murray was suddenly half a goal worse when playing behind a defense as inept as Anaheim's, and (3) indisputable facts won't open your mind enough to overcome your blind contempt for John Gibson.

Thanks for highlighting Gibson's terrible numbers. He fell off a cliff in December 2018 and has never recovered - you're just proving it for me here. Getting .903/.904 isn't even "decent backup" territory, it's Cap Dump stuff.

Oh, I saw that one, all right. The one where you hilariously assert that Gibson "fell off a cliff" around January 1, 2019 and then in support of this wild idea, quote his figures of 0.905 save % for the last 12 games of 2019-2020 and 0.913 for the last 11 games of 2020-2021. Only someone as blindly biased as you could even begin to imagine that those numbers prove your point.

He started missing time in January 2019 and his performance dropped considerably at the same time. It has never recovered. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you!

Why should I understand something that isn't true? Your suspicions and speculation don't constitute facts, or even evidence. There have never been reports of Gibson having any nagging injury or that his performance was in any way affected by his physical condition, and your own figures put the lie to any such contention. I don't see why the latter point is so difficult for you.

The facts are plain as stated: his performance declined suddenly and precipitously around December 2018 / January 2019 and his performance has never recovered to previous levels.

I never stated as fact that he has a nagging injury, although it is a supposition that might explain why a former Vezina caliber goalie has played like a mediocre backup for 2.5 seasons now.
