KK ups the Dylan Strome market

Description
If KK is worth a 1st and 3rd via offersheet, surely Dylan Strome could fetch at least similar value at half the AAV, a more proven track record of production, and being similar in age and RFA status. I will put this in the poll, so please scroll down and vote. “Would you rather have KK at 6.1 fir 1 yr or Dylan Strome for 3 mil for 1 yr?

I'd even add that the Hawks could retain 50% for this year.

Interesting idea, Strome, for all his shortcomings, is definitely better than KK right now and definitely has more value in this situation without the $6 million cap hit and QO tied to him. Still think KK has more potential but as a player for player replacement, right now, I think Strome would be a good option for the Habs

Strome is 3 years older, and not THAT much better than Kotkaniemi. Totally different situations. Although if they can't get Dvorak I could see them going for Strome.

I’m not sure the situations are analogous. I definitely agree that Strome is the safer bet but I don’t see how he fetches a 1st. If MTL is the suitor, I think you’re looking at a Bennett sized return. That’s a 2nd and an ok prospect. And that’s only because they’re between a rock and a hard place.

3 years in the grand scheme of things isn’t that much. Theoretically speaking you can cancel the three year deficit in age with other factors. Strome has a PPG % of .6 through his career so far while KK has .4 … one guy is making 6.1 next year and one is making 3. Dylan Strome also has better underlying numbers than KK, and is young enough to fit any core in the league.

i feel like a petty offersheet situation doesn’t really reflect the value of other parties, especially because in order to have someone sign an offersheet and have it be successful, you need to overpay.

If the canes end up getting kk, whats stopping them from working out an extension right away at a much lower cap hit? Wouldn’t that get rid of the QO? I have heard comparisons to Barkov when it comes to kk, that he isn’t good now but will be a couple years later. It’s a sizable gamble for the canes, but if they end up with a barkov type of player, it would worth every penny of the first and third. Canes are also most likely making the playoffs. Even with the subtractions that were made, canes are still at an elite level of talent. You can hope and dream all you want for the canes not to make the playoffs, but in the end, the results will show on the ice.

Strome can definitely get more then that if he bounces back from the nagging injuries at the start of the season and the Hawks trade him mid-way through.

Sure, but I assume MTL would trade for him in the preseason. I could also say the same thing about any player. Right now that Bennet return feels like the high end of what he could get.

But what motivation do the Hawks have to move Strome especially at only a 2nd and a okay prospect? You don't move a 24 year old RFA center who's shown he can play a .6ppg rate for a bag of magic beans.

You do when he had an absolutely atrocious year and made moves to replace him last year at the deadline. I do think any Strome deal is dependent on Toews being healthy but all signs point to him being moved.

Strome was battling nagging injuries last year and while he didn't play good I wouldn't say he had a atrocious year, that's a little much. Also, not sure what trade you are referring to at the deadline last year? Gaudette? He's probably a 4C at this point to replace Kampf not Strome.

It’s come out that the Canes wanted to acquire KK before the offer-sheet. However the Habs didn’t get any offer they liked enough to consider. I find it hard to believe that Carolina wouldn’t have offered a 1st +3rd or more before they tended the offersheet with the crazy AAV. In any case, the canes are willing to give up a first and a third for him, so that raises the market for Strome.

I’m referring to the Borgstrom trade. An almost identical player to Strome. He’s a not great skater with great vision and play making.

Not really when Strome has proven he's a .6ppg player....Borgstrom is FAR from that
