It's not that big if a deal
Cap space can be created

Keep KK, you don't want Jake Evans or Ryan Poehling as your 2C. Suzuki/KK is a low end top 6 centre punch, but it's way better than Suzuki/Evans or Suzuki/Poehling. Danault will be severely missed. He had a very heavy defensive responsibility. I know Suzuki was decent defensively but he wasn't going up against Matthews and McDavid every night. That was Danault's job. Idk if Suzuki will be able to do that.

Bring back Staal as a depth guy. He was good in the playoffs and can't be any more than he was in the regular season. Could step into the lineup whenever

Byron doesn't have to be moved, but he is overpaid for what he brings. He will probably require a sweetener since every team passed on that contract when he was on waivers a couple times last year.

Lehkonen is younger. Maybe you opt to keep him because of age.

Could be a good cap dump, if not I'm fine with keeping him

Really? You're going to take back KK at that value and then have to pay a QO next year of $6.1m to keep him and that's when Suzuki is also due for a raise?

You do know that KK has signed this offer sheet right? As in, he wants to move to CAR.

Best decision is to move on with the picks, trade for another 2C, and learn from this - i.e. do not offer sheet players on other teams!

It won;t be long before Habs fans realize what a mistake signing Hoffman was.

You know KK personally? Does that also mean the Aho wanted out of Carolina? No I think your just blowing smoke trying to get a rise out of Habs fans. KK signed the OS probably for the same reasons that Aho did. He wants a fair deal and negotiations weren't going how he wanted them to.

No team NEEDS or WANTS Byron and most teams (EDM included) can't afford him. Byron cleared waivers THREE TIMES last season (FEB, MAR & APRIL). It would cost MTL more than this to move him and it's probably more than they should pay. But with Byron waived and Weber on LTIR it gives you $6.7M in cap space. Move on from KK. Trade Hoffman and a 1st to acquire a legit top 6 pivot. The roster, as-is, won't be making the playoffs.

Carolina only did this out of spite. They want Montreal to match, which is why it's tempting to let them have him.

Every player signs that offer sheet. It's not a reflection of where KK wants to play, only that he wants to earn more money sooner.

GM's should be using offer sheets, but they don't for this reason, among others.
Paul Holmgren admitted that one of the reasons he stepped down, was because he could feel from other GM's that they didn't want to deal with him after the Weber offer sheet.
So Bergevin and Waddel might have made their jobs more difficult, and for what? Now they both have to spend more grey hairs worrying about whether the other GM will strike again.

I have zero sympathy for Montreal in this. There is an unwritten rule between GMs not to use the offer sheet system. If a team does it - you will get the payback. This is justified payback. Now that it has happened I believe the best move for MON is to take the picks and move on. And don't offer sheet any one else. But we know they aren't that smart...

Nah I'm not trying to get a rise out of Habs fans. That is my honest opinion on what I think MON should do in this case. KK is not worth $6m+. Matching the OS is a bit of a no win situation for the Habs, at least the compensation picks are a return for KK.

Bergevin will draft a big french guy who was supposed to go late 2nd with the 1st round pick and a high skill forward with the 3rd rounder
