If Montreal doesn’t match Waddell loses. No 1st for TDL and no space. A horrible contract that won’t get a QO. I mean KK just isn’t all that good of a player.

when Byron returns in Dec/Jan with Weber on LTIR, MTL would be over the cap, they would need to trade someone before Byron returns.

Yup but Waddell made a bad miscue here. Montreal signed a great player to a good contract… canes just signed a bottom 6 centre to 6.1m… and gave up asssets to do it. Not to mention the headaches this will make down the road for signing other RFA’s. I mean hey… my comparable is the 6m 5 goal scorer…

The good move would be to take the picks and run... Then have Weber on LTIR and trade for a center with the Canes or their 1st pick.. 6.1 for KK is highly overpaid. He's 2.5-3M.. they would've never have gotten a 1st pick for him last year. Waddel is off his rockers..

If by "successfully rooked" means putting your team in a bind out of spite by overpaying for a 3rd center, losing a 1st and 3rd then going over the cap hit then yes, I guess he did.

At least Habs had the cap space and were getting a first centerman for the Aho offer. Yes, they were losing lots of 1st picks but a first center like Aho was worth the risk.. Waddel is over paying by 3M$ plus his 1st.. ouch
