Skjei's deal is up in 3 years, and he's A LOT younger than McDonagh. While McDonagh is probably better now, that is a VERY risky deal.

Ryan McDonagh will be more productive in those three years than Skjei, despite both of them not having a big offensive game, McDonagh will probably be cut in the last year of his contract just to re-sign Victor Hedman to around a 2-3 year contract

Seabrook has a back issue that kept him out of the lineup to the point he had hardly played anyway. He was forced to retire due to injury.

The buyout penalty on that McDonagh deal ain't friendly. I don't see why Carolina does this,. Getting significantly older on the blueline. Skjei at least is still growing as a D man. He was utterly fantastic last year, and did VERY well when asked to fill in for Slavin in round 1. Why change what works on the back end?

Chicago doesn't have the player or cap space for the 2 contracts. Would have to take back 2 contracts and equal cap hits to make it work. Sorry to be a downer.
