Is Monahan really a good option

Description
Yess Monahan is a good player that we should pursue but both team don’t want to trade their players because they under play last season and they know that they are better than that
Debrusk could be a 30-40 goal scorer, and Monahan could be a 60+ points Center, both underplay last season, debrusk more tho, so the question is what each team want

Cgy know that they should see what Monahan look this season because if he come back to his best performance he will be worth way more, debrusk is about the same, last contract year and I feel he could be back hungrier than before, personnalité I think that Monahan is worth more than debrusk that’s for sure I think debrusk with a 1st for Monahan is a faire deal now, but if both team wait to see what their player look like in the season that could change completely, if Monahan drop and debrusk go up a 1 for 1 could make it, if Monahan go up and debrusk down no deal would work, if players stay the same I could see a debrusk with a 1 st for monahan

Sure but it’s going to cost more than that especially with retained salary.

The retain is fair a decent prospect and a 4th for 1.375 for 2y

    Monhahn is not worth a 1st IMO. He's proven he's really a high-end 3C/low-end 2C.

    Imo not really

    Past two seasons by pts/g

    Monahan 0.6 pts/g | Debrusk 0.45 pts/g

Sean with way better linemates, more PP TOI, etc.

With Debrusk more cost and term controlled due to RFA I'd say he's a more valuable asset all told: Monahan either walks or demands $$$$$ after 2 yrs

What! 439 points in 591 games? You must have extremely and unrealistically high standards for a top six C. 3 30 goal seasons and only less than 20 ONE time and it was a truncated pandemic season. you should give me reasons.

The reasons are his last two years saw a decent decline and he's not great defensively. He's on pace as a high 40's/low 50's point producer. He's in between a 2nd and 3rd line center.

This might be the worst take I've read on this site, are you using Malkin as a base for an average 2C?

I'm using his stats over the last two years. It's clear cut data, but hey, I know people don't like clear cut data.

So you are basing a guy's performance off playing with a major injury and treating it like he was fully healthy? Got it

You can keep making wrong assumptions if that helps your narrative, but hey, you're still wrong at the end of the day.

How am I wrong? You are saying Monahan is a 3C when he was producing at a 62 point pace before getting injured. You are aware he had hip surgery this offseason right?

I'm aware, but this goes back to last season.

The last two years he's been around a 50 point centerman with very poor defensive ability. That's good for a borderline 2C/high-end 3C. His WAR stats over the last two seasons show as much as do any advanced analytics you can view on natty stat trick.

I'm really not trying to be argumentative here. All his advanced stats, CF, xGF, HD, driving play, scoring chances, etc... are all below average and have been dating back two years ago. His WAR stats show he's middle of the road offensively with being pretty bad defensively. He was definitely much better up until two years ago, but he's hit a decline that started back before his injury.

And he got multiple surgeries last offseason as well (before the bubble) I guess him coming back and being the Flames best player in the postseason means nothing. This is why people always use 3 year windows to measure performance
