Sadly, Brännström's play has really fallen off a cliff. While he was once very promising, now he is almost 22, and I can't see him cracking our lineup. This would push us back, and the probability of Brännström being a bust is too much.

Lol trading Brannstrom for a 3rd line winger would be a travesty

I’d take this as a wild fan. It sets us back temporarily, but I think Brans is gonna be a reliable top 4 guy. He’s too skilled and he lights up the A. I view Greenway as dispensable for this level of return.

Meh, It is when you consider Ott traded stone for brannstrom. But a side from that, Greenway is the prototypical player sens want to build around. In todays NHL a good third liner is pretty much as important as a good first liner. Look at how tampa one their 2 cups. Greenway proved this year that he can be an elite middle 6 forward with his tough-to-find package of size, power, puck protection, agility and instincts.

Branny hasn't fallen off a cliff, he jsut hasn't progress as fast as the unfair expectations that were put on him following the stone trade. He will defintely be a great 2nd pairing d-men, eventually. Sens just seems to have no room for him.

Also, with those wierd buyouts, MIN probably doesn't have room to re-sign Greenway next year especially considering all their other options at LW.

Win-win trade.

I love Brännström but I just don't see him making it to the NHL long-term. Maybe that's just me...

Come on now lmao. A good third liner is NOT pretty much as important as a 1st liner, that's total nonsense. The Bolts won the Cup because Point and Kucherov are two of the very best playoff performers in the NHL today, and they had elite talent on the blueline as well as the best goalie in the world. The Coleman-Gourde-Goodrow line was a very effective line and definitely contributed to their success but they weren't anywhere close to being the cause of it lmao.

Also even if you are right that you NEED a great 3rd line as much as a great 1st line, Ottawa already has the makings of a great bottom 6 with guys like Formenton Pinto White and Paul, and they desperately need more top six talent. Trading young talent with upside as legitimate impact skill to get a really good checking forward is insanely short sighted. Also anyone writing Brannstrom off before he's even turned 22 is totally stupid imo. He's developing fine year over year, and to me he's still on track to turn into a top 4 D capable of giving you 40-50 points.

That's selling Greenway short. You could say he was a 3rd liner in his first 2 seasons but his game is still evolving and he looked good last season

Personally I wouldn't mind that trade except that we should be trying to make a package to catch a bigger fish

I like how the forward group looks :

Tkachuk-Norris-Greenway
Stutzle-Brown-Batherson
Formenton-Pinto-Brown
Paul-White-Watson

That first line would be hell to play against, which would allow the skill on the 2nd line to produce as well.

I think he’ll have a good career. He’s mobile, sees the ice well, has good instincts and offensive upside. Some room to shore up the defensive game and not the biggest guy, but I think he’s gonna be a solid player.

I like the idea of him and Addison splitting time on the 3rd pair this year, and then having both stepping into a much larger role next year (assuming Dumba gets dealt next offseason or at TDL).

For Greenway, if you keep him, I think he ends up being an effective but slightly overpaid winger deployed to mostly shutdown duties. Which I see as more replaceable than a top 4 D. If you trade him, I think his value maxes out at someone like Brannstrom or a late 1st. So I’m on board with moving him now.

Brännström needs top4 minutes and power play time. At the moment, I see him bringing some value offensively but not defensively. A job in the 3rd pair could be a catastrophe, especially with another inexperienced, offensive-minded D-man like Addison. As I said, I love Brännström's game but I would be hesitant to trade for him.

Splitting time with Addy, not playing together. As in both get ~35-40 games. More if he proves himself. He would get top 4 time and PP use next year, under the assumption that Dumba is moved.

He might not be needed this year, but I don’t think that’s reason enough to pass on value. Especially at the cost.
