You sure? The Oilers gave Ceci 4 years at $3.2m. If Holl is a 7th D, that makes Ceci what? a 10th?

sigh.... yes, yes it does

I like Murphy more than Rielly. We need another Muzzin

Agreed. But not at that insane price point.

Happy to eat my words if Keith bounces back. However Keith has had 4-5 rough years now. Sure he played a lot of minutes but his results in those minutes were not good. He’s definitely considered a cap dump by most teams and people at this point but kenny was not one of them which could and likely will be unfortunate for Oilers and their fans.

We all hope he will bounce back. He brings leadership which is sorely needed into the locker room. Zmach is right, Samarukov should be ready by next year as he was injured last year or he would have been ready and Broberg is on the Klefbomb path but is 2 years away. I am not concerned wtih Keith as much as the Ceci 4 year signing.

keith is owed very little money in actual salary which is why Chicago didnt want to retain without a better pick. Edmonton has the young players to make it through the next two years so it wasn't that much of a deal breaker.

He takes up valuable cap space and has shown over the last chunk of years that he’s a replacement level player at this stage of his career. Just bc they COULD technically afford to do this trade from a straight cash perspective doesn’t mean it was a good deal or that the value was correct. Kenny got bamboozled again.

sucks for the hawks too. Murphy is better than Rielly and no one is giving Strome+1st+2nd for a guy with 6 games of NHL expierience and 1 total point.

Neither were good deals. If you wanted Keith for locker room presence that’s fine and there’s an argument to be made. However not getting any retention so you could leverage the cap space and not getting any assets for what is largely and widely considered a cap dump is proof that Kenny did a terrible job here. Especially considering that Keith and the Hawks had little to no leverage given his clauses and what teams they could negotiate with.

Now you're being biased. Rielly is miles better than Murphy without question, but I'm looking at positional need. A Rielly - Jones pairing could be dangerous for the Hawks just like Muzzin - Murphy could be the Leafs shutdown pairing

I think it is a little early into the season to say that right now. Lots of players have down years. Is Eichel a cap dump because he had a down year?

are we actually comparing a 24 year old eichel who came off an injury to a 38 year old keith?

Nope. He was the first player I thought of that had a down year and will bounce back.

He played 23 minutes per night in chicago last year in all situations and can still skate. Ken Holland is the old player whisperer keith will cover the bet.

So then what. Bouchard sits for another full year? Now that is brutal logic. He already sat all last year due to bad management.

Oilers are not giving up 2*2nd round picks for a 7th D

I'm Leaf fan so i'd love to get 2 2nds for Holl but I do see how the Oilers would decline

Lol - look at his results on the ice. Eating minutes isn’t a quality of a contending team if the results are poor. Yotes, Sabres, etc are teams that look for dmen who can eat minutes regardless of the results. I’m sure oiler fans are hoping he returns to form but since that was 5 years ago at best, I just don’t think it’ll be likely. Especially since the rest of the d core won’t be able to help cover up for him.

Murphy is better than Rielly. I'm not the only one here that thinks it. Rielly is one of the most over rated defenceman in the league because he plays for the Leafs. Murphy fills a bigger need on the hawks defence than Rielly would anyways. Who replaces murphy on the hawks right side if this happened? We can just drop the robertson for Strome+1st+2nd out of this deal because I think we both know that isn't ever happening. SO, just talking Rielly for Murphy 1 for 1, hawks easily decline that. Rielly would only be an improvement over murphy on the powerplay, and we already have Jones to be the PP QB. Murphy is better 5 v 5 and it's not even a debate of who is better on the PK.

I hope you understand when there isnt a fit, there just isnt a fit. But each to their own. You do you.
Oilers bed is made no matter what and this trade with Holl is after they made their bed. Not before. So not sure what your point is after the fact. That makes ZERO sense.

Play Ceci anywhere near the top 4, and you are asking for trouble. Give me Holl over Ceci any day of the week

Delusional. I think anyone would take Rielly who can put up 40 points over someone who can barely put up 20. Like I said, I'm looking at positional need rather than a replacement

Oilers are not paying Ceci 3.2 million to be the 6th D or sit him. Bouchard is 100% ready for the NHL. So what not play him? That is brutal asset management.

i mean just because keith and ceci are listed on the 2nd pair on the depth chart and that they are the oilers 3/4d doesnt make them a 3/4 d. just because holl is listed as 4 on the leafs doesnt make him a 4, he is closer to 5.

I'm not talking about fits or the trade in this post, my main argument is you called a 7th when he is not a 7th and is better than half the oilers d,

Yup he might be better than most of the Oilers D. But Oilers are not paying 6 million to a guy to play on the 3rd line. Either way there certainly is not a fit which the guy that made this deal should have looked at before he did this.
