Pulock probably gets more $ if he becomes UFA. Bruins have three left-handed D under contract for the next three seasons including two they just signed so they won't acquire Dillon. Two 2nds is too much.

IMO Pulock will get 8.5 million next year. I think he’s going to have a great year, and had an awesome year last year

No thanks. I know your team overpaid, but that doesn't mean we will.

Pulock will never make it to UFA. Lou is locking him up long term to play with Pelech.

You aren't going to get that value for any of those defensemen. Maybe a 3rd and a low B prospect for DeMelo, a 2nd for Dillon (not 2, that was an overpay imo), and a decent prospect and a 3rd-5th for Stanley

The jets didn’t really overpay. The caps paid a 2nd and a 3rd for him at the tdl. The jets didn’t pay much more. Vegas paid 2 2nds for Martinez. Tampa paid a 1st+ for savard. The isles a 2nd for Greene. The blues a 2nd for scandella. The list goes on. One can easily make the case that Dillon is better than all of those defensemen. I think it’s just time to accept that this is the new norm for what defensemen are worth.

I was really looking at the new market. Your assement of demelo is fair, I just went on the high end whereas you are more in the middle. Anywhere from a 3rd to a 2nd is fair for him.

Stanley is a wildcard. If he builds on his last season, he will easily get this in my opinion. Most gms would love to have a 6’7” physical defensemen who can give offence. Though a deal centred around picks for him isn’t a good idea, you are right there. I think a good prospect and a 3rd is where his value is at.

I could see Pulock getting anywhere under 8M, I agree. I was more hoping he would take a “hometown discount”. Though we probably have to give more money than this at the current market. Fair enough that Dillon isn’t really a fit.

Fair enough. I do understand the idea that the market value for physical and/or shutdown D-men has gone up quite considerably I'm just not sure that the trend will continue. Dillon is a great player and I love what he brings but is it worth giving up 2 quality picks? Maybe for a true contender but not for 26-28 of the teams in the league. If Stanley continues to improve, especially offensively, then I could see him fetching the return you discusses. But then again, if he improves a fair amount, wouldn't he be a better option (both economically and skill-wise) to keep on the Jets than Schmidt?

You make fair points. However, the only reason I kept Schmidt is because his personality is perfect to fit into the jets room. Anyways, while Schmidt can’t match Stanley’s physicality, he brings other factors to the game (like supreme puck moving) that make him objectively better for the jets even if Stanley improves. Stanley can be replaced by Samberg in my opinion.
